Isimple IPOD FM Modulator

I am installing a wired ISimple FM modulator which will play and charge the IPOD. The head unit is the XMD1 which does not have an aux input.
My question is: can I simply splice into the 12v and ground wires of the wiring harness attached to the head unit to supply the power and ground? If yes, just crimp the connections and tape them or should they be soldered and heat wrapped?

Proper crimps are fine. You should be able to find crimps with heat shrink insulation. A little extra money but speeds up the job and looks nice.
