I see that there is Manual #32, published in 2001, for 4.3L MPI engines. So I assume that since I am carbureted Manual #25, published in 1999, is the most current one for me to use. Anyone know for certain??

Your motors a 2006 and your have a carb on it? Im assuming its a TKS carb in which #32 will cover that.

If it happens to be a mistype and you actually have an older 2 or 4 barrell on there then yes, #25 is the best they have.

I find that the older books are much easier to navigate and have more information.

If you turn key start then it is a tks carb, but, if you have to pump throttle before starting it is not. Yours should be tks I think they started tks in 2005 or 2006, it was after I got my 04.

Yeah it definitly is, in which the new manual will have a section for it. They consider TKS, "fuel injection":smt043.

It should say it right on top of the flame arrester.

Even with TKS you still may need to pump the throttle on cold starts. They tell you that at Merc school:grin:

OT: I'd perfer a 2bbl Mercarb over a TKS ANYDAY

Well according to the spec sheet ( http://media.channelblade.com/boat_graphics/electronic_brochure/company13008/53996_f.pdf ), I have the TKS system; so I will use the newer manual, #32.

The only time I need to pump the throttle is the first start-up of the year. Otherwise she'll start right up throughout the season. I guess it does work!!

Since you like the 2 bbl. carb better than the TKS system, what are your thoughts about a 4 bbl conversion to make it an LX??

Thanks for all your help SR Tech!! We have some great dealerships here if you ever think of relocating to the Midwest!!

4.3LX is by far one of the best motors mercruiser has put out besides the newer SCi's.

I'd go for it, fairly cheap conversion and you'd gain some horses too.

Just make sure to get a Weber as opposed to a Rochester quadrajet. Or you could go Holley, its really user preference on that one. But Webers/Rochesters are OEM 4bbls that merc offers.

Quadjets are not drilled properly from the factory, thus making them next to impossible to have a smooth idle. Plus rebuilding them is just a PITA. Thats why i'd stay clear off them.

They have a service bulletin out for the areas that they forgot to drill
