Is it worth it? 27ft 1987 Sea Ray Sundancer

I can get a FREE 27ft 1987 Sea Ray 268 Sundancer. It has title, low hours, and hull is in great shape. Mechanically, it has 2 Mercruisers that aren't getting fuel. My brother-in-law had a Sundancer for 4 years that he sold recently for more than he purchased so it's peaked my interest. Just want multiple opinions.

Would this be worth getting to fix & restore?...Either to sell or keep.

Looks like a project boat for sure.
From the pictures it looks like a severely neglected boat so chances are there is a lot more wrong with it than just motors.
You’d have to be really willing to take on a project like that, have the space to do it, and a very flexible budget.
If the hull, decks and stringers are in fact good and you can do most of the work yourself it may be worth restoring it to keep if you plan on keeping it for several years.
But you would really have to have a burning desire to own that particular model and vintage.
Buying to restore and sell is a losing proposition.
Personally, I wouldn’t get involved with it. In fact, I would run away from it.
But if it works for you then go for it.

The potential is there but is the checkbook? Just in mechanical your looking at thousands $$$$$ not to mention the cosmetics . The money you would have to put in would out way the value. B.O.A.T means break out another thousand !

Spend a day or two just cleaning it up then ask the question again, There's definitely lots of work there but starting cost of FREE is good. Looks like its been missing TLC for some time but "if" the hull is sound it might be worth the effort and the reward of bringing her back to life.

If you want to boat sometime in the next 2 or 3 years, then put together a ball park estimate of what you think it will take to fix this boat up. Triple that number. Go find a boat that floats and runs well for that price and go enjoy yourself on the water.

If you're looking to work on a boat for the next 2 or 3 years, then go for it.

If you decide not to take it and they sell for parts I too would be interested.

This is actually a 270 not a 268. If you like projects and spending money, go for it. If you wanna go boating, find something else.

The OP hasn't responded in about 6 weeks. Since he posted as a guest there's no telling if he even has come back on since his original post.
