Not sure if this is the correct forum to land this but wanted to share the results of my cabin update.

Here are a set of before and after shots of the cabin. I spend abut $200 total for the material and did the work myself. The flooring idea came from this forum. Time will tell how it lasts.

Getting close to putting it in the water and hoping that summer gets here soon. It has been a cold spring.

Wow, nice job ! !
nice upgrade, I like the floor. Again, nice job

Well done Kevin and nice job on the decor. The timber floor is definately a nice touch. Give yourself a pat on the back mate. :smt038 When are you coming around to do my cushions ?

:smt038Nice job! Boy that really looks nice. The wood floor section was a good choice, I think it makes look bigger and brighter.

Kevin,
Nice upgrade!! Huge difference and good choice on materials!!! Well done!!

Looks much better. I have thought about ripping out the carpet and installing hardwood in the galley. The challenge is the galley floor is not flat. Under the cabin table as you did it's flat but the galley floor is not. I'm curious too if you leveled it out somehow and installed hardwood there. I have thought that if the galley floor was filled with some leveling material you'd lose an 1" or 2" of the overall inside height.

Thanks for the complemens regaurding the update. The floor material I used is "allure" Vinyl flooring. I bought 1 box of the color I liked at my local Home depot for $35. It was an overstock deal on the one box they had but there are alot of options from this flooring mfg. After several previous discussions on CSR about laminate and the potential of delamination after exposure to water I decided I would try this. A $35 invenstment was worth it. The beuaty of the floor is it is flexible and easy to cut with a tin snips. Because I view this as an experiment I left all of the carpet in place and laid the floor over it. I have been soaking a peice of this floor in a bucket for a while and it still looks like new.

Here is a picture of the galley section. You can see the new floor curves up the sides of the floor. It still looks good. The black lines you see I installed to make it look like a marine inlay. It is just 1/8 black pin stripe from 3m. I cleaned the area with achohol and applied the stripe. I have been wearing work shoes and on it for about a week. I feel good that the stripe will stay down. If not I pull it off and go on my way.

Like I stated in the first post. Time will tell the durability.

Hmmm. I think you have some more explaining to do, Kevin. Tell us about the head door, micro door and cabinet doors! :smt001

That is all a peice of laminate that I bought from a local cabinet and counter top maker. Paid $50 for all of it and used the best spray on 3M contact cement I could find. It like the flooring cuts with a tin snips and I used a sanding block and 80 grit to refine the edges. Probably went down to 180 for a smooth finish on the edges. I did the table, door that covers the breaker panel/radio, head door, refridgerator and the under sink cabinet. I readly should do the two doors under the Vbirth and the hanging locker but will need more laminate to get it done.

This is a cherry look laminate but as you can imagine there are a million options. This is what the shop had as a reminant from a previos job that I liked. The floor doesnt match exactly but my wife tells me it isnt supposed to.

I think it looks good the way it is. The two colors compliment each other. I think that when matching colors you either need to get it spot on, or have them far enough apart (in color/shade) so they don't clash. They look good.

If you haven't already... google "tambour".

I don't think I would like the laminate floor very well, but the idea of a hardwood floor I do like. I am just thinking that to do it with real hardwood that uneven floor would make for a tough install.

Yes it has been a cold spring, I drive past Green Bay every day and this was the first week I saw boats in the marina. I have a huge list of things I have to do on my boat this spring yet. What shop did you get that laminate at? I love the color.
