Saw this advertised in SR Living; most of you have heard of "Spot" - that PLB looking transmitter that sends an " I'm OK" message via satellite. I thought it was useful, but not enough so to justify buying another piece of hardware.
Now ACR has what looks like the same type of program, but uses your existing PLB or EPIRB's "test" feature to send the message and your coordinates. We're sometimes far offshore and the Admiral sure would like to know all's well, esp on the overnighters. Looks like a cheap way to "check in". It does drain the battery, so I've got to look into that aspect; for infrequent use it shouldn't be a problem
