While hard at work I came across this.

http://www.captainforhire.com/products.htm

Anybody have any experience with this?

There are some funny lines on there, like:

WARNING: IMPROPER USE OF THESE ITEMS WILL CAUSE DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY.
WARNING: PROPER USE OF THESE ITEMS WILL CAUSE DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY.

My Sig is smaller, and probably safer. I'd be the guy that has the shell blow up in the plastic flare gun...(last name is Murphy:grin:)

No thanks. I don't think I'd want to base my survival on something machined from aluminum (there's a reason why gun cylinders and barrels are made from steel) and I wouldn't have much faith firing that in a plastic "handgun".

Since most 12 gauge launchers are usually plastic, it should be used only as an emergency survival tool. I have fired an entire box of rounds through the same 12 gauge launcher without failure. I have had others crack in half on the first shot. None have ever exploded. Old and UV damaged launchers can break. Weak springs and or worn parts can fail allowing the launcher to open resulting in loss of the adapter, or injury. For this reason it should only be used in a life or death situation.

The adapters are C&C machined from T-6061 aluminum.

I'd much rather defend myself and my family and friends with a real, live handgun (bad pun).

Agreed! Get a permit and carry the real thing, safely and legaly of course. Have a lockbox installed to keep unwanted little hands away.

Also for those of you on the Great lakes, dont cross into canadian waters with a flaregun.

Yep, I still have my 357 on the boat. :smt001
Please don't tell anyone !!. :smt043

Oops, I didn't realize you couldn't enter Canada with a flare gun. I wonder if I had those on board when I went last year

Agree with the above comments, however I think this is designed for those doing bluewater cruising and going to countries which have laws against bringing a gun with you. You have 3 options:

- Don't carry
- Have a hidden compartment in the vessel to hopefully hide the firearm
- Use your flare gun as a las resort weapon

Not saying it is a good idea...but I believe this is its intended purpose.

Why can't you cross into Canadian waters with a flare gun? I have one on board and they are perfectly legal!

I just carry a can of wasp spray. Legal in both countries and you can spray a nice stream about 20 to 30 feet! Doesn't have to be accurate, you just have to get reasonably close to the face!

With a .38 caliber round, the procedure to stop a BG is two hits in the center of mass and one in the cranio-occular region. The .38 does not have stopping power when you hit the center of mass. If you hit the BG he will keep coming at you unless your first shot is dead accurate in the cranio-occular region.

Stopping Power is a myth. Don't buy into it.

What counts is shot placement, shot placement, shot placement. A miss with Thor's Hammer (.45) is still a miss. And by miss, I mean not hitting something critical in the body that will bring a quick end to the fight.

Back to the OP, I think this is an incredibly slow, ineffective, and dangerous option.

I'd rather have a .38 than nothing. That being said, I wouldn't fire that thing unless its an life or death emergency and I honestly don't think you can count on the accuracy you would need to make use of that .38 calibur round you just fired. That and the reload time makes a quick follow-up shot impossible.

This stuff will stop a grizzly... it'll do the trick without the jail time.

I'm wondering what it would feel like to get hit by a flare coming out of the gun
