I have already installed a new Glomex 9112AGCU antenna on the radar arch of my 340 Sundancer. I have also connected the new AGC unit in the cabin. See pic attached.

It is interesting to note that the coax cable in the radar arch, for the Glomex, is white. When I installed the new Auto Gain Control, the cable is black (see antenna in line).
That tells me that, somewhere between the radar arch and the control located in the cabin, the white and black lines were spliced/connected together (for whatever reason).

It seems easy enough to follow the white cable thru/down the radar arch, However, once the cable begins to snakes thru the hull somewhere, I can't follow it.

So my question(s) is:
Does anyone know where this cable snakes thru, somewhere in/behind the hull, as it makes it's way into the cabin and eventually to the AGCU control?
Also, Has anyone had the same experience where the coax cable starts out as white and ends up as black? Is it spliced somewhere. intentionally?

Thanks

Many of the connections are spliced with connectors at the arch and separate. Probably just made the original construction and assembly of parts easier.

I will have to look at mine
2002 what year is your 340? I changed antenna but didn’t change the AGC. perhaps I should, but to answer the cable issue- but look in your mid stateroom for another cable connection. I have one ( factory installed) I’m sure. You may see that it comes down from the starboard side there first. That maybe the split. After the 4th trip I have to work on some things and I’ll look closer. Good luck !

I installed a new Glomex antenna in the spring. I also installed a new manual gain control and not the AGC. Reception was awful. I got to looking at the coax and it did not look good either being 18 years old. I replaced the coax from the antenna into the gain control and all is great. Just my experience.

Do you remember if the original was 12v powered ? I have the new one which needs 12v. It’s actually working pretty well in my area.

My 340 DA is a 2000

I came down the arch on the port side, pulled the coax out under the cockpit sink, ran it through the cabinets to the back of the electrical panel which is to the port side of the cabin door. Behind the electrical panel is the splitter where the TVs branch off from.

Bennett,
That makes sense....

I have a 2000 340DA. Your configuration sounds the same as mine.
Therefore:
1. how did you snzke the wire behind the "Head" enclosure to reach the electric panel?
2. My electric panel has a top and bottom (two) separate sections. Both are held in place with screws allowing access to behind them. SO, is the splitter on the top section? Or the bottom section?

Bennett,
Now I see that you have 420DA.... I have a 340DA. My configuration is somewhat different. Between the "cockpit" sink and the "cabin" electric panel I have my Head enclosure..... I suspect that the wires must snake behind that head enclosure....

You are correct on the difference in layout. We had a 260DA at one time and I had to go over/behind the head with a wire. Take a wire snake and it will find its way over or around the head. You are correct about your electrical panel. There are two separate sections and then up at the very top, I think you will find two screws that when removed, will allow the entire panel to fold forward revealing a pretty large area behind it. Hopefully, you will find your splitter there. I always kill 100% of the 110v power whenever I drop this panel.....

Isn't one of your incoming coax wire from the shore cable connection? Maybe the black one?

This is the original one on my boat, I have the new one that came with the antenna. Did you just swap yours out ? This is I guess just manual gain control but so far it’s working.

Here it is.

Here it is.

That is the one that came on your boat unless someone swapped it out fir same. Turned counterclockwise to a click and the little red light should go out. You are now on a dock antenna or another external antenna. Turn it clockwise and the red light comes on and your signal is coming from your Glomex.
