Installing Impeller

magic lube from the pool store is great. I just used watered down dish soap in a spray bottle. It didn't take much. I also decided I would change it every 6 months because mine was down to 2 fins when I changed it and I want to avoid the debris in the future. We use our gen set a lot throughout the year.

LW Liquid White Lithium Spray. Does anyone know of any other applications for this stuff?

if they gave you one of those narrow spray straws, you can spray it into the zipper of your enclosure. does a nice job of lubing the zippers. i use silicone spray for that but the lithium stuff should work. if you're manic depressive and run out of your meds, do this in an enclosed area.

Thats funny Rondds.

Now I know Im not supposed to run this thing dry for too long, (4 seconds or something like that) do I need to prime the pump or just crank it a few times before letting it run on its own. I just removed some of the hoses but didnt find any pieces, but now I have to soak up the flood in my bilge. Should I keep looking for pieces or could they have made their way out of the system already?

the quest for pieces of impeller. that's a good question. if you didnt find any in the hoses, than it's up to you whether to pull the risers in search of any. i'm too lazy to look back but is your boat fresh water cooled? if so, risers are probably the smallest passageway that a small piece could occlude. i'd just put everything back together and run the boat monitoring temps carefully. odds are you blew the pieces out through the exhaust. if you are raw water cooled, you could check inside the thermostat housing. that's fairly easy to get off but you'll need at least a new gasket kit to re-install.

as for running dry, the pump is self priming and will immediately start drawing seawater in. no priming necessary.

Rondds,

Thanks, I will run with that answer (and I gave you some rep for it too!) Once the traffic dies down, Im gonna button this thing up, there was an accident right at the exit to the lake. Maybe I can get her into the water and turn it over before nightfall. One of the bennies of being 15 minutes away from the lake.

good deal carl. best of luck and let us know what happens!

Latest update... Yesterday I had the Marina drop the boat in and I noticed one of the hoses leaking which was a good sign since I didnt have to worry about the impeller starting dry. I tightened that up quickly, but what I had to worry about was it starting.

After an hour and a half in 105 degree heat, and three different jump packs in different configurations my batteries were so dead that all I could get was a slow crank. I gave up at hour 2 and the marina took the boat to charge it overnight. I probably will not give it a try until tomorrow.

On a brighter side, during the last couple of days between re-installing the pump and the failed test, I took my cockpit cover home and stitched up all of the rips, about 6 in all, one was about a foot long. Next I will tackle the snaps and my bunk carpet on the trailer.
