Folks,
I’m beginning to do some research on a trailer and tow vehicle for an AJ 270. I’ve read through most of the posts on this forum and have obtained a lot of valuable information. The first of what will probably be several questions that I have is what exactly does Sea Ray include in its listed dry weight for a boat. It is understood that it would not include fresh water, fuel, nor waste in the holding tank. It’s assumed that it would not also include engine oil, coolant, and other fluids. But what else is included? Is it just what is included with the base model (including batteries, canvas) and no optional equipment (such as AC/heat, windlass) or is it the dry weight of an average equipped boat? And how accurate are SR’s dry weights?
Thanks in advance for help,
Gary

I do not understand how they calculate dry weight. For example, the same exact boat will weight 20% more in one year than another. but the newer boats seem to be more accurate. Correct me if I am wrong but I believe the 270 amberjack is a similar hull to the 260 sundancer. My boat at the public scale weighs in at just under 10,000 lbs with a steel trailer. A tow vehicle depends on how much you travel, the terrain you travel on, and your experience towing. A truck with a towing rating of above 11,000 lbs would be plenty for your rig.

Dry Weight seems to always be low when others have reported real scale numbers for other cruisers. For a 270AJ, I think your selections are going to be a 3/4 ton truck.

GMC/Chevy 2500, Dodge 2500, Ford F250

Your Dry Weight as stated is 7325. Add 600lbs for fuel, 2500lbs for a trailer and probably another 1-2K for gear and/or weight variance and you are in to a 3/4 ton truck to be safe. The resounding opinion I have always heard here is that a 3/4ton will give you much better handling in this weight class. You have an advantage because you can get the right truck now rather than someone guessing if what they already have will work.
