We bought our first boat at the end of the season last fall. We've been having a great time with it, but also have put in a lot of time and $$$ finding and fixing all the little glitches. Lately, we've (ok, I've) been working on several electrical issues like http://clubsearay.com/showthread.php/45146-Low-cabin-DC-voltage?highlight=cabin+voltage.

Right after fixing that one, we discovered the reason the cockpit fridge seemed wimpy was because it had no 12VDC (basically, every time we left dock it wasn't running). Tired of running down problems, I let the good folks at Pennybridge Marina find and fix that one for me. Apparently, it was NEVER connected; just took a while of finding and fixing more important things before we noticed this one. Maybe that's why the previous owner used this fridge to store the fridge manual.

And now, Serendipity is... perfect. Everything works. Everything works WELL. She even sounds good while running. And I've had her long enough I can actually relax on board rather than being a nervous wreck. Peg has taken her first piloting lesson! Being a boat owner is... enjoyable.

I know I'm going to get a bunch of posts telling me I never should have jinxed it by posting this. But having seen a zillion posts of people struggling to fix one thing or another and not ONE saying everything was great, I thought I should say something.

It IS possible to get there. Maybe this post will give some people hope. Marshall could certainly use some (we have the same boat).

Must be time to start a project. I've been thinking about a dual-color LED upgrade so I'd have some red cockpit lighting for night runs. Or underwater lights. Maybe an Axius upgrade if Merc ever releases it. Or I could just wax it, starting with another thread asking what the best wax is.

More likely when I go down to the marina tomorrow I'll find something else that needs work. I think I noticed some corrosion around the aluminum windshield post; guess I should check that out.

Good for you. Apparently you love to tinker. I've got a few projects for ya! : )

Search boat wax. It's been covered.

Welcome to the week/day/hour/minute of relaxation..... We all have had them and some more then others, but it is still a boat and you will be busy as we all are taking care of our pride and joys !!!

Rich, I was feeling just like you yesterday.... this morning the shower sump stopped working.....boats..... :smt101

Yeah, I know it won't last. But it is a great feeling. I knew it must happen to others, but hadn't seen any posts like this. Boaters are a superstitious lot.

As for the boat wax comment, maybe it would have been more obvious if I said I was going to start a thread on portable generators, or a potbelly pig lift...

Enjoy the moment!

Just for the record, we are having a great time on our boat even though we can't get on plane because the starboard engine is wacked and the fresh water pump cycles now and then but I can't find any leak anywhere and an enclosure zipper just broke and the dinghy motor was recently stolen and the system monitor display is dead and .... and .... and....

There must be something to the name "Serendipity" which is the name on my boat. I also spent a full year tracking down issues and getting most repaired (still have some). Never realized how much time and effort there is keeping a boat the way you want it.

My boat ran BEST (i.e. fastest) last year. . . .I think I am being nailed by much more fouling through the summer this year.

BUT. . .I am enjoying a bunch of minor $5 upgrades (at a cost $100 each. . .); and I am really using the boat more than the last few years.

We've worked on our boat the 6 years we've owned it and still find "glitches" plus the upkeep. Moved our boat to a marina closer to home so we could enjoy it more, and we do. Most weekends we're either on the boat repairing/replacing/upgrading something, cleaning something, checking something,
and so on . . . . The only way we found to keep from piddling with "something" is to go anchor out, chillax and decide that it can wait till cooler weather! LOL!!

It's great feeling, you are right!

Shower sump fixed, heat exchangers cleaned, air filters replaced, max rpm reached... I just want to leave the office and go to the boat to enjoy that good sensation!

A boat is just a reason to spend time (and yes money) on a hobby (or really a lifestyle) that completely engulfs you. Even when it is perfect there is always spider **** or something that needs attention! If your mate enjoys cleaning, polishing and waxing while tanning (and sweating) you can spend hours together! Enjoy - its all about the ride!

I more than most fully understand and can appriciate the feeling. This last weekend I have crossed another milestone by installing a generator and now my attention is the frig. But the feeling I get when I leave the marina and someone shouts nice boat! Just know that you are one of the family here and we help and sometimes slap one another as families sometimes do.

Honey, I need another thousand, mmm $1300 for an isotherm frig.....please.

Hey, I said she worked perfectly, I didn't say she was perfectly clean. You have to overlook SOME things if you want to have a life (or some time to spend enjoying it).
