We bought our first boat at the end of the season last fall. We've been having a great time with it, but also have put in a lot of time and $$$ finding and fixing all the little glitches. Lately, we've (ok, I've) been working on several electrical issues like http://clubsearay.com/showthread.php/45146-Low-cabin-DC-voltage?highlight=cabin+voltage.
Right after fixing that one, we discovered the reason the cockpit fridge seemed wimpy was because it had no 12VDC (basically, every time we left dock it wasn't running). Tired of running down problems, I let the good folks at Pennybridge Marina find and fix that one for me. Apparently, it was NEVER connected; just took a while of finding and fixing more important things before we noticed this one. Maybe that's why the previous owner used this fridge to store the fridge manual.
And now, Serendipity is... perfect. Everything works. Everything works WELL. She even sounds good while running. And I've had her long enough I can actually relax on board rather than being a nervous wreck. Peg has taken her first piloting lesson! Being a boat owner is... enjoyable.
I know I'm going to get a bunch of posts telling me I never should have jinxed it by posting this. But having seen a zillion posts of people struggling to fix one thing or another and not ONE saying everything was great, I thought I should say something.
It IS possible to get there. Maybe this post will give some people hope. Marshall could certainly use some (we have the same boat).
Must be time to start a project. I've been thinking about a dual-color LED upgrade so I'd have some red cockpit lighting for night runs. Or underwater lights. Maybe an Axius upgrade if Merc ever releases it. Or I could just wax it, starting with another thread asking what the best wax is.
More likely when I go down to the marina tomorrow I'll find something else that needs work. I think I noticed some corrosion around the aluminum windshield post; guess I should check that out.
