I Cant Stand This State!!! >:-(

You're REALLY gonna love the property exit tax when your house does sell!!!....:wow:

From the research that I've done, if the gain is less than 250k for a single person and less than 500k for a married couple, one does not pay a 1% exit tax.

Do you know otherwise?

Doug

Well. . .I can slam NJ with the best of them. . . .but I do know that because NJ mandates Gas Attendenents (no self serve gas) -> Gas tends to be $0.05 to $0.10 cheaper than in PA.

(at least until recently. . this summer the prices have been more or less the same)

I couldn't tell you the last time an attendant pumped my gas in NJ. I learned my lesson after having my check engine light come on three times because they put my gas cap on crooked. Hell no, I pump it myself now.

No....but I like your info much better..at least that will 'reduce' by exit payoff......not that I'll ever be able to convince the admiral to leave....:smt013....But I continue to try...

As soon as my house sells, I'm out.

Did you grow up in NJ? If you haven't lived elsewhere, you might be ignorant to the fact how bad NJ screws you. Ask around... I'm not getting into it on here.

Doug
Lol...aren't they the only state that charges a toll to leave????
Kidding....I have never spent much time in NJ to construct an opinion

Come on down for a visit; my friends and I will show you around. We've got some problems here, but they are outnumbered by opportunities and other good stuff. Who knows, you might just want to move. You certainly won't be the first, and you don't want to be the last.

Seriously, I'm not a spokesman for the chamber of commerce, I'm not a residential realtor or developer, and I don't own a moving company. But until you can elect some sense into your political leaders, and force them to come down hard on your uncivil servants, your state will see many of its best and brightest leave. It's called voting with your feet.

It's possible my info is wrong too. There seems to be a lot of misconception about exactly what happens. I guess I'll find out soon enough. I'll let you know what I find.

Doug

I can confirm that the exit tax exists if you sell your house. Married and making a good bit more than $250K profit, I know we paid 1% or better. Now that I think about it, that 1% may have been on the selling price and not the profit....No matter what it was, we paid the freaking state a ton of money that I could have used elsware.....I hate NJ (sorry if I offend)...

Applicable here is the refrain from Bob Dylan's 'On the Road Again':

R1:
Then you ask why I don't live here
Honey, do you have to ask ?

R2
And you ask why I don't live here
Honey, how come you have to ask me that ?

R3
Then you ask why I don't live here
Honey, I gotta think you're really weird.

R4
And you ask me why I don't live here
Honey, I can't believe that you're for real.

R5
Then you ask me why I don't live here
Honey, how come you don't move ?

Maybe all you Jersey folks would like to pay South Carolina PP tax on your boats. $1000 a year for my 260DA

try paying over $12000.00 tax on your home, with a guaranteed 2% increase each and every year! this is a beautiful state and it beats the heck out of Brooklyn (where i grew up) but the political landscape in NJ is heinous and despicable. i cant go anywhere yet - too entrenched - but i will do whatever i can with my vote to make it better, even if it's futile.

just got my boat registration renewal and went online (as i've been doing for years with all vehicles/boats i've owned) to do the renewal. lo and behold, for the first time, they have tacked on a "$2 CONVENIENCE FEE" to the reg fee for the priviledge of renewing ONLINE. are you freakin' kidding me? online transactions save them all sorts of money in clerical costs and paperwork and now they have the balls to tack on a fee? F*** them. go ahead, laugh, but this is a matter of principle. i'll spend the 2 cents on the check, 0.5cents on the ink and 40 whatever cents on the stamp before i give them any more of my money.

$2 is cheap they charge more here in florida. A LOT of companies here think they need to charge people when they want to pay them. I hate that.

I hate NJ and I don't even live there.

I hate NJ and I don't even live there.

Must be a mutual thing. I hate NY and I don't even live there. either. But I also hate NJ. Come to think of it, I have a long list of places I hate. I'll just go with I hate the northeast.

I have to start looking south.

Best regards,
Frank

Can't argue with looking south.

Afterall. . .the effective NJ boating season is only 6 monthes. So that's six monthes of boating, one month of prep, and 5 monthes of sitting on my rear. Not enough snow for any *real* winter sports.

I spend more time than I like in Louisiana and Texas. I think the effective boating season is 10 months (September to June! - - -> July and August are AC months). That sounds much better, but those states have their own problems. I suspect the Carolina's would be more to my liking cliamate wise.

Is it just me or does NJ have the worst street signs in the US? They seem to just randomly change the name of a street 3-4 times. If it wasn't for GPS, I think I would still be trying to find my way out of there.

I agree with hating the northeast. Nice place to visit, but wouldn't want to live here.

We have friends who move to the area around Buford, SC. Seems really nice. Just no high tech in the area, so tough for me to make a living. Oh well.

Best regards,
Frank

there's always pig farming you can fall back on when things get tight.
