looks like Fay is going to hit us, the only question is wether she will be a tropical storm or a full blown hurricane.:smt089

So with that said whats on you're prep list.

I started yesterday with firing up the generator to make sure it works and loading up on 26 gallons of gas in my gas caddy (gas stations ran out of gas 24 hours before the 2004 storms ever hit). the boat is all fully fueled just in case I need a backup source.

this evening the canvas will come down off the boat and the boat will get tied to the lift along with the cockpit cover being ducktaped along the edges to prevent the wind from getting under it.

Once thats done it will be time to break out the storm shutters and prep the house for the highwinds.

whats on your list?

One item.........haul out, block the hull and chain the stands. I've been thru a Cat 3+ storm before with the boat in the water and learned all I need to about hurricanes. Tending lines for rising and falling surge in 100+ mph winds is not fun duty. I don't mess with 'em anymore.

I leave my canvas up. We have a custom top that has been thru 120mph hurricanes so I'm not worried about it For me, I'd have more water damage to the panel and electronics than to the top, anyway.

Ya'll be safe down there.....but if you can....us Northerners would apprecitate it if you could get out and protect them oil rigs in the Gulf.....don't want to see any surge in prices.....

Be safe and good luck!!!!

When I read your RE line I thought this was a crime thread! Boat is pulled out of the water, tied down and ready as she can be. Three propane tanks in the back of the truck for the grill, and enough fuel for 5 days of operation of the generator. Good idea on the gas in your boat but I don't think I can back syphon the gas out.

It's looks like landfall near us. We have double lined everything. At this point I don't think we'll drop any anchors. The house is secure due to the fact we have impact glass.

I am more worried about a neighbor's boat. It is an old trawler that I haven't seen moved in 4 years. I think he has it tied up with old shoe strings. If it breaks loose and sinks ours, there is going to be H*LL to pay.

I'm going to steal a deep sigh of relief. When I went to bed last night, they kept sliding the turn to the North to later and later and later times, which would put the storm deeper and deeper into the Gulf, and put landfall closer to us (possibly a direct hit).

When I woke up this morning, I learned that it turn almost 90 degress to the North over night. This way, it won't have as much time to pick up steam and therefore will affect everyone less than if it went into the center of the Gulf for a few days.

just got cash from the atm. getting gas in the cars. taking the kids to their school orientations tonight (school's closed tomorrow, but orientation is still on tonight). we are closing our office at noon tomorrow (each day of lost time is about a 15k hit to our revenue, which we can not afford in this recession, so we can't close totally). bringing all the pool furniture and stuff in around the pool deck. wishing I had taken that dude up on his offer to trim all the trees around the house for $800 a couple of weeks ago. expecting major damage to the screen enclosure, like always. been to the store yesterday for some minor emergency supplies.

after that, filling a glass with bourbon, and laying low. the house and boat are as ready as they can be.

with a 10% named storm deductible on the boat, I'm more worried about a 25k damage than I am a total loss.

back in 2004, i was madly tending lines and such, running like a fool between the boat and the house. it's not worth it - whatever happens down at the water will happen.

besides, here in the Bay area, this is looking to be a non-event, at least as of now. if the track changes tonight, then we'll a little more.

looks more and more like a possible non-event; but wont relax until this thing is over land.

thanks for the heads up fishnut. I need to check the gas on the grill.

I predicted it to be a non event yesterday morning, and was surprised when they decided to close all schools and goverment offices. Right now no rain no wind sun is out. Fay who? Tomorrow I expect there will be more rain.

I think this is gonna turn into one of those "Why did you weather people make such a big deal out of it?" and the next one no one will listen and get slammed.

I did 0 to prepare well can't say 0 I'm always prepared.

I have a house in Port Charlotte... I was kinda hoping the thing would flatten it so I could at least get my mother's lazy ass boyfriend out of the place.

I told you last year that we can have some people 'talk' to him......

Looks like Fay is officially a non-event for the tampa bay area. at least now we won't have a big price jump on gas as it continues to fall.

Let me know where, next time I'm down there I'll take care of that.

I keep the boat at my Mother in Laws down there in Punta Gorda Isles. I like boating down there better then up here where I live in Tampa. They bought a house just before charley came through and flattened it. Had to rebuild it. They live in Maryland (for now) so boat storage is free there which I don't think you can beat unless I lived there full time.

Very interesting for my first hurricane. It went from what looked like a projected direct hit on Tampa to what now looks like a projected path that could eventually cover nearly every square mile of FL except the Tampa Bay area.

Haven't even felt a drop of rain here yet...but I wouldn't be surprised if it popped back out in the Gulf this weekend and then came back down to wack Tampa. :smt101

Yea the weather mean it saying it will go off the west coast turn into a Cat 1 Hurricane then attack somewhere around jacksonville then possibly go into the gulf build up more steam and attack us again.

I'm going to steal a deep sigh of relief.

Did I speak too soon? It's head straight West across Florida, and is prognosticated to go directly over our Bay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If it does, it will probably be a Tropical Depression, and other than killing a weekend and thoroughly rinsing the tops of everything, it shouldn't cause too much damage (knocking on wood). There will be flooding.

If it heads South of us, it won't be a direct hit, but it will likely pick up steam. I wouldn't be surprised to see this thing circle around and take another stab at Fl after this pass. Wish us luck.
