My trailer pulls very well but the 1500 Avalanche needs a bit more suspension to cure the "wiggles" when passing or being passed by an 18wheeler at speed.
the trailered boat is right at the top of but still within the tow ratings

You can really help the "wiggles" with a Hellwig sway bar. Made a huge difference on my Suburban. MM

Oh, I'm with ya! I don't own a vehicle newer than 14 years old. I like 'em old so I can wrench them myself...same with the boats! Right now is a great time to be in the market for a big 'ol used truck, as they suffer from the same low selling prices as bigger boats do...higher fuel consumption and maintenance costs. :wow: If a fellow knows what he's doing, keeping an old vehicle running can be WAY more cost effective than making those high monthly payments to your friendly banker huh?

You might also try a little more tounge weight... use a drop ball mount or move the boat more forward on the trailer.

the trailer is set up well but the wind shear off the passing truck hits the boat and pushes the truck from side to side with the ball as a pivot point...equalizer bars or a heavy anti-sway bar on the rear axle will probably be the answer......
    or a bigger truck:grin:

Jim, My issue was with a poorly engineered travel trailer. It was fine from the manufacturer, empty, but when normal loading in the storage spaces provided was finished it was tongue light. There is no cure for that on a TT other than not take your camping supplies. MM

Moving up to a Ram 2500 cured my trailering issues.

If you don't need electric or water, you won't beat Paynetown on the yearly slip fee ($840.00).

We have had a slip there for 5 years (plus one year on a buoy). There are houseboats in the buoy field along with some sailboats and cruisers in the slips that use generators. The thing is that you need to be a good neighbor and use a quality low noise generator (like a Honda) and be willing to not run it all night to keep the peace.

See you out on the lake next spring and summer.

We are going into our third season with a slip at Fourwinds at Monroe. For us, it was initially a decision between Fourwinds and Cutright. We could have saved some money at Cutright but having youngsters and a pool a short walk from the boat made us decide on Fourwinds. I really like the guy who owns Cutright as he has a great reputation and his gas prices are normally a lot better than Fourwinds even with their .10 cents per gallon discount on 100 gallons or more. The Admiral loves anchoring just past Cutright and there is a good spot that has about 30 feet of water as most of that area is in the 8-12 foot depth range. I prefer anchoring at the Dam as the water is 30-50 feet there and I think it is the cleanest part of the lake. I can tell you that I went to check on my boat the week before Christmas and Fourwinds Resort is going through one heck of a remodal right now. Am excited to see what she looks like this spring.

Where ever you end up, I hope we get to meet you down there. We met firecadet and his family there and they have turned into dear friends. They are certainly some great people and a ball of fun to hang out with.

This is what I like to hear...friendships forged through our hobby. I am getting the sense that there are a great number of CSR folks at or nearer to Monroe than any other lake in Indiana. This would cause me to lean in that direction; if for nothing else, to enjoy the camaraderie I've experienced here on the forum, out on the water as well. Regardless of where we berth this year, I am looking forward to meeting you guys and gals for some raft-ups or dockside BBQ's!

Had a boat on J dock for about 8 years until we got tired of all the idiots and senseless casualties. Other than LOTO, I've never seen a more dangerous place to boat. Year in year out, how many kids on jet skis or waterskiing get plowed over? Too many. And the Fourwinds could learn a lesson or two about how to treat it's customers as well as operate and maintain a 900 boat marina. I truly hope the place has changed for the better over the past 17 years but I haven't heard that's the case.

It is great for meeting CSR friends. There are a lot of SR's on Monroe as the The former Indy dealer maintained a large presence there in the past.

It is still crowded and choppy on weekends. If I slipped I would either go to Lake Michigan or Dale Hollow. MM
