I would tend to agree with the danger factor on weekends
the main pool is total chaos ....that's why we hook on the idle side across from Cutright to party and lay up for the night back in the Saddle Creek area. Practically lived on that lake from age 16-38...most of my time spent was weekday evenings.

Bought my first boat from Doug back in 1978 when he was selling Centurys at John Kirk. He is a good guy. Since Sea Ray wanted to maintain their presence in the Indy market, they moved the dealership into the existing Regal dealship on the southside. They don't carry near the inventory that Boatland had but they still have a presence and Doug went with Sea Ray.

The Admiral and myself discussed slipping at KY Lake, Cumberland, and a few others but decided that we wanted the convenience of being able to be at the boat in just over an hour. Back in the 80s I did keep a couple of boats down at Cumberland and it was a long haul on a Friday after work to get there. Loved it there as the lake was certainly much more beautiful than Monroe and much more safe. At Monroe, I only burned through about 500 gallons last year. I think I would double that at Cumberland or anywhere else. One guy on my dock with a boat of similiar capacity was proud that he had not burned through a full tank the entire season. Dont think I will ever get to that point as we like running her too much.

Monroe is nowhere near as crowded on the weekends now as it was prior to the gas price hike and economy tanking.

The main problem I have with Monroe is what searay40dad pointed out... There is nowhere to go to other than to a spot to swim or set the hook. I can't complain too much though, we live less than 10 min from our slip.

Monroe is the way to go for me since im in indy. Ill be at the fourwinds again this year. try the boat sport and travel show and see if you can get a discount. thats what i will try this year.

also keep in mind if the water is high this year like it was last you wont be able to get your boat under the cause way.

hope to see you on the lake.

They have a few sport boats, no big boats like Boatland used to have. MM

Hahaha, I always said that too, we did yearly trips the entire 65 miles of Lake Cumberland for many years. But as our boats got bigger, and gas prices got stupid(er) we mostly just putz to a cove off the main lake, anchor, and relax all day. I used to average 75 hours a year on my boats. Last year I put 13 on her. But nice thing about Lake Cumberland is we can still find private coves minutes from our slip. The only time I was at Monroe it was a zoo.

If you ever get to Grider Hill dock, look us up.

Mark - What dock are you on? We spent our first year on F dock in 2011 and liked it pretty well!

We are slipped on "F" dock.

With the snow coming down the last two days, I am missing the boat even more. Admiral and I were talking at dinner about buying a place in FL to spend the winters and the debate was do we take the boat down and move it back and forth or do we leave it here? she didn't comment on my suggestion to buy a second boat...LOL

We're F28 for now, just outside the covered slips. Hoping to move under cover in 2012.

Any of you monroe-ites know Bon Aire (400db), Zucherbach Lady (87 300da), Lady Jane (37 aft cabin I think) or Chappy (dunno what he's got now)? Are or were on J dock.
