We just returned from more than a month of crusing on Lake Michigan and Huron so the tank was pretty full of it. Once we got back in our home port we pumped out and filled the holding tank with fresh water four times and pumped it out. The last pump out produced water that appeared to be as clear as tap water. I turned the head off next and flushed it. I then filled the bowl with water and added a cup of powdered Tide. I then flushed that and let it sit in the lines for a day or two and turned the head back on. That relatively clean soapy water is now in the holding tank. It's important to keep the rubber lines as clean as possible so as to minimize oder permeation through the hoses. Of course our tank does not normally smell since it's in a Tiara and we boat mostly during the snowy season.
