How to clean the holding tank (black water)

Post a video of him reaching into the tank and scrubbing it with Ajax. America's Grossest Videos.

Where's Mike Rowe when ya need him?

Now there's a guy I would have a beer with. After he takes a shower...

That and getting a proper seal on a polyethylene tank is difficult. You can't glue anything to it. There's only one rather expensive 2-part adhesive from 3M that sticks to it. The only decent way to get anything sealed to a poly tank is to have it spun welded onto it. But that usually requires taking the tank to a shop. Usually fittings (that aren't molded in) are into threaded sockets that were spun welded onto the tank. The tank walls are often too thin for enough threads to hold securely.

I have one of the Tornado units but never installed it due to lack of clearance for installing it (it stands taller than would fit). I might've tried but didn't have any luck finding a way to turn 90 degrees off the hose thread fitting within the clearance available. I agree that it's not high-quality construction. I'd be skeptical of how well it'd hold up to any sort of abuse, certainly not if you were attaching a hose directly to it each time. Maybe it'd hold up if you ran a length of hose off it to a more secure connection. But then you've got one more thing to leak and let the stink out.

What the hell kind of response is this? Are you messing with me? You act like we just had a couple beers in the White House. I'm reporting this.

I hear Simonize works real well on the walls - it get's the scratch/swirl marks off the tank walls.

Am I missing something here? This is the inside of the black water tank - why does it have to be cleaned? I can understand being a little extra diligent before winter storage - pumping it out and adding antifreeze, but it's a holding tank. Why clean it when your just going to pump sewage into it with the next flush?

Do you clean out your septic system at home the same way? Do you wash the treads on your car tires after each use? Sure the inside of your holding tank is sh*tty, but it is supposed to be.

The waste caking to the tank walls takes up space in the tank reducing the amount you can put in it. I'm not sure if the resulting smell could back up into your system or not. They are not airtight, so the smell could concievably move out of the boat to a neighbors. Once one gets them clean, it is not hard to keep them clean and not at all expensive.

Only if you use a orbital buffer. This is a variant on when the sh_t hits the fan, the silver spoon Grey Poupon crowds version...(Or should it be the grey poop-on crowd?):smt043:smt043:smt043

Sea Ray - suggests Tide Powder Detergent.

First you get a small troll (wingless would do), then you give the troll a scrub brush, open the poop tank and quickly stuff the troll inside. Slam the lid shut, put a cup or so of Tide powder detergent in the toilet and flush.

This will give the troll something to do while you are out boating.

At the end of two days, remove what's left of the troll and you should be go to go.

Get some Domitec tank cleaner and fill it up with water and a couple jugs of that stuff... my tank still has white sides and there's been a lot of sh!t pumped through it... probably more than what has been pumped into the CSR forum.
Please post Domitec before after pics. Please use dockside pumpout instead.

He's back....
