I found it. On my 2004 5.0 Mercruiser the cool fuel black box is on the bottom of the engine near the engine Mount.
It’s very close to the floor. In the photo I put a red line around it .

could anyone please explain how I remove the cover ? I have not been able to find any information on this.

I am hoping I can do this with the engine still in the boat. Yikes

Mine did not have the coolers or the covers, but I'm sure someone else will chime in .....

Looking at the diagram, there's no fasteners shown -- which implies to the top of the cover (23) just snaps on but don't quote me on that

That whole unit slides out after you remove the 3 fuel lines and the 2 mounting nuts that are by the motor mount.

If I remember correctly, you can just pull on the top tabs gently and rotate from top to bottom. There is only a plastic latch which holds the cover on.
It might be vice-versa but it will pop right off.

If your cool fuel looks like the diagram, it is not the Gen III that had the paint problem. Only reason to remove or take it apart would be if you are replacing the fuel pump. If you are chasing the fuel problem mentioned in your other thread, I would do the things I recommended there before you tear into the fuel pump.
