How do you like the transition to a fully enclosed helm?

My sentiments exactly, especially the sound of the water. GFC it's nice to know you can still hear the water from your height.
LOL. Only when I have my hearing aids in!

Just kidding. When we're at hull speed I can't hear it but when we're on plane (22kts) I sure can.

Had not thought of that but I do the same thing. Maybe the fully enclosed helms all have joystick docking. Great call GFC...another box to check.

We do have the pod drives with joystick control! We also use headsets to communicate when docking to make it safer and prevent fights. I'm not usually the one who docks the boat but I was able to dock successfully with my husband talking me in and giving me direction and when he's docking, I do the same for him. It requires us to have implicit trust in what the other is saying and following direction without arguing. It has more to do with the length of the boat than the enclosed helm as to why we use the headsets. Docking is a very civilized affair these days!

A million little idiosyncrasies between enclosed and not enclosed - guessing that's why manufacturers make both and owners buy both.

We love our 370, but will be moving up to a 450 next year when one of the crew graduates college. For us it's a no-brainer. Tired of dealing with canvas, tired of buying canvas, tired of having to take the canvas off when it warms up and put it back on when it cools down, or up if there's showers, then down when they stop.

I would imagine location plays a big role. We boat in Colorado, and being enclosed would absolutely add many days/nights to our season. We're seriously considering moving to Arizona, but that will apply there. At 48 and 50, we don't need the wind and the spray, we like the views, atmosphere, and comfort a lot more. We boat to relax, and as the person that fiddles with the canvas, I'd find less canvass to be more relaxing.

You should find someone local, or a marina selling something you may consider as far as enclosed goes - spring for gas - and check it out with your wife. Do so on a hot day and also on a cool evening so you see both persepctives, and see the feeling/plus's and minus's of each.

We're all very fortunate to be able to have these types of conundrums, enjoy the process.
