The admiral and I actually got out on the water altho the lake was 'officially ' closed. Most all local fireworks displays were canceled. Here is what we faced.. and only on the waveruners.. and only for a short time...

Mine was horrible, but thanks for asking.

I watched the NY Fireworks on HD TV since MM has had my boat for 4 weeks to do 20hr service and fix some airvoids and the none skid. :smt013

Ours was wonderful. We ended up tying up with 8 other Searay's with a Marine Max "gettaway" The lead boat was a new 48 Sundancer. Very nice. Sorry to hear about those who couldn't enjoy the day.

Spent the whole day out at Egmont Key. since it was over cast it wasn't so hot as to be unbearable and the kids had a blast jumping off the swim platform for nearly 2 hours straight.

we managed to avoid any rain or thunderstorms while we where out until we where on the way home around 4 PM. then we had to run the guantlet of rain and thunder storms going up the bay. I could see lighting in the distance as we passed St. Pete and we had some near by lighting as we docked up at home, but all in all it was a great day out.

the kids and wife crashed early from the day on the water so I was left to myself for the fireworks show. I met up with some friends around 8 PM and we rafted up to watch the fireworks show. all in all a good day.

we did have the usual idoits on the water with No lights, Dumb ass flashing his spot light in my face, an other bumb ass using his as a head light to run the channel even though there was a line of boats all going in the same direction no more than a hunderd yards apart. basicly a typical 4th.

Oh before I forget. we had phosphoresent algea in the water last night. talk about cool. my propwash and wake was glowing bright green the whole way home very cool.

Had an awesome time on the Delaware River with the kids and another family, up close on-the-river views of the Philly fireworks:

Anchored right off the Battleship New Jersey, cooked out, and had the best view - and no traffic!

Great to be an American!

Admiral and I went offshore and breezed north to a shallow reef off Pompano Beach and did some snorkeling using the Brownie's Third Lung. Water was glass most of the time and we had a nice afternoon. I raised my head from the water and saw a huge storm thunderhead off to the NW and called it a day. We got onboard, stored our gear and made a rumbline for the port as the clouds begain sprinling my decks. Entering the port huge black clouds covered the horision to the SW and they were moving our was. It is ery to see the sun shining brightly and a sheer black wall of clouds side by side as if some one had drawn a line not to be crossed. I hussled back to the YC and we backed, tied up in rush and got the canvas upjust as the bottom droped out and we had torrent for 3 hours. Over 3000 linghtning strokes hit earth during that storm!

Then the rain let of quickly and the YC began serving a big barbeque dinner ... members began showing up and about 400 of us watched fireworks that are launced jut 300 feet off my bow from a sand bar in the ICW. Not a drop of rain, and great time was had by all. (Burp!)

We had a great day on the water. Started about 1400 when we left the slip with friends aboard and headed for St. Leonards Creek. Winds were out for the south 10-20, but the run up the Patuxent was fine. Got anchored and then my old 260 rafted up with us. Inflated the raft/island/pool toy/whatever it is, fired up the grill and ate like a pig.

I kept the VHF on because the forecast called for afternoon showers and around 1700 a tornado watch was issued for our area. Sky looked fine and nothing was on the radar. A ragboater anchored behind us yelled over that we should check VHF to which I replied I was. Decided to fire up the genny (had it off because we had folks in the water, got them out first) and was just able to pull a local TV station in using the Glomex. Saw that the storms were all well north so we decided to stay put.

Finally broke up the raft around 1900 and headed back towards our marina. The Solomons fireworks barge was further south this year, about a mile north of Drum Point and almost directly across from our marina. Forecast was for S winds 20-25 and my plan was to watch the show from the slip. Once we got down there, the wind slackened quite a bit so we motored down a bit and anchored across from the barge. As the sun went down, the winds picked up a bit but nothing I didn't think I could handle.

After the show was over I got the anchor up and we headed back to the marina at hull speed. With no moon and several unlit ragboats around, I was very glad to have the radar! Got into the slip with no problems despite the wind.

We all had a great time. :smt038

As you can see, navigating out to our Island getaway is very pleasant. This is Morris Island just behing Fort Sumter in the Charleston Harbor. We moved to the USS Yorktown to watch the fireworks. The day ended by firing up the grill at midnight. We just happened to be back home tied up to the dock at the time.

I hope you all had a great time.

This is the second time I've noticed cr0ck1 mention this "other key" and about if you know the area you know it. I'm thinkin I need someone one to get some GPS coordinates so that I can check it out. Hmm that gives me an idea for the forum. A way to post "Favorite Places" to go with GPS coordinates and photos.

morpheus;

get google earth and do a search on "Passage Key" ( 27°33'20.19"N 82°44'28.23"W ) thats the other Key the Cr0ck refers to. it's a long time hang out of the Nutical Nudist boating club ( see www.boatclix.com crusing refence) and just about any other uninhibited sole who cares to let it all hang out. So to speak.

the Key has all but vanished and now there is a shoal which uncovers during low tide. the last time I was there about 3 weeks ago the tide was running out so fast over the shoal the at least 1 boat lost his anchor and it was nearly impossible to walk without getting dragged.

don't go there thinking your going to scope on supermodels it's mostly an older group and if you don't strip down you will be harrassed for even coming out their. guackers are made to feel unwelcomed. other than that it's actually a real friendly group, more so than the average boating group.

if you get the chance you should at least check out for you're self at least once, just remember to go heavy on the sunscreen for those sensitive part which don't normally see the light of day. a sunburn below the breif line really does not feel good.

Even though the motor was blown on the boat we were still able to enjoy the fourth. The wife and I went up on the 3rd and 4th and came home this morning on the 5th to go to work. Sat on the boat and the dock and watched anywhere fom 12 to 18 different fireworks displays from around the lake. The marina new we were coming up so they waited until today to pull the boat out of the slip inorder to pull the motor. If you're lucky enough to be on a boat you're lucky enough.

We had a blast. Got back yesterday from Sunland on the Columbia River in Eastern WA (3 hours from my home in Marysville). Temps at 100 or so, we were on the water most of the day and relaxed at our Neighbors vacation home by night.....

Question about that picture in the inflatable pool....Did you shoot the photographer with the water blaster toy after the picture was taken? I wouldn't have been able to resist. Great shots Todd.
