Well. .. .my Fourth was good.

I am about 80 miles south of Turtle Tone down in NJ, so the rain held off until about 9:20pm.

I managed to drag the Admiral and Crew down to the dock by about 7pm. . . so we could get a 7:30pm departure for the Toms River fireworks. The weather was decidedly iffy. We installed both biminis (folded), and carried a full set of rain gear.

Got anchored and settled by 8:30pm. . .and actually were kind of glad of the foul weather, because it was keeping many of the loons off the water. We were actually worried about weather conditions as we traversed the bay, but were glad that the sheltered waters in the River were calmer. Seeing all the other boats anchored also gave us confidence.

We were kind of dubious of our viewing location in the river. . .until the first test shot went up at 8:40pm. Oh! We are right *there*. Cool. Good spot. Only downside was that we were pretty close to the channel, and the three or four Marine Police boats were tooling by very regularly.

At 8:45, the fireworks started in earnest (Hey! No chance to eat! We got here just in time! Weren't they supposed to start later? You want them to wait until it is raining? Wow! those things are right on top of us! Are those brush fires near the launchers?)

At 9:15, the show is over, and I see about 200 sets of anchor lights turn into 200 sets of Nav lights. Huh. I don't want to wade through that mess. Let's sit and eat.

At 9:20: the rain starts. Oops. The heck with eating. We decide to go home while it is still raining, before the proper thunderstorms hit. We unwrap the biminis and don the foul weather gear.

At 10:00pm, we are still cruising home alternating between idle speed and minimum plane speed. Despite the rain, visibility is quite good, and everyone is in good spirits. Nobody has yet fled the cockpit for the cabin, although two of the crew were under an open umbrella under the bimini. Well. . .at least they were happy and dry!

At 10:30pm, there is a lull in the storm as we are pulling up to our dock. Cool, no need to even send someone onto the wet forecastle. Didn't even bump the dock as we grabbed the lines.

At 10:45pm, with the boat secure for the night and the rain starting to fall harder, the skipper breaks open the good scotch and the serious drinking begins.

Did the local lake fire works thing. Anchored on the GA/NC line (about midway on the lake) watched the GA show then turned around and watched the NC show on the dam. Pulled the boat first thing Thursday for our TN River trip. Looks like the PCB group had another great FL trip  Hope to post some pics soon.

Great pics, looks like the bay was nice and calm

4th of July was a complete bust and it may be some time before we're back to normal. All of the marinas on Lake Texoma are closed and with no place to buy gas or pump-out there's just no reason to go; it's so depressing. Below is a pic of our boathouse as the lake hit 638 (619 is the normal seasonal elevation). It's now at 640.7 and still rising.
