This is a stand I built for my Bayliner 3250. If the tide is right it is easier forr me to sneak under the bridge then to wait for it to open. This helps. Something like this might be a good Idea for people who trailrer thier boats.

How is it secured in the "Up" position?

Sweet! :smt038 Nice job, is it powder coated? Did you fabricate the whole thing or just the pivot part?

It pivots on a stainless pin with teflon bushings. It is balance so that it is just over center in the up position. To ensure it stays there I aquired a stainless pin from a Black Hawk Helicopter. It is a standard pin sold anywhere, the type that is spring loaded with a ball in the end. It isnt powder coated, I used an etching primed and shot it with a two part epoxy. No I didnt just add the pivot part. The whole thing was made from scrap aluminum from around the shop. Total cost $0. Unless you count my time. Thanks for the interest

Great Design, Where were you last year, we had the Whole Radar Arch Hinged, it worls so well have the radar arch collapse behined the windshield...... Yeah I'm waiting for Dominic's Radar arch Modification results too, and what went wrong or right with that job.

Robert:

That hinge job on that 320 Never went through.....I thought I posted that..:smt017....Oh well...getting older every day...which, BTW...is a good thing. I'll check that old thread later....

I like Riptide's design,....:smt038..... and it seems to work fine in his canvas configuration. It appears as if he has a drop canvas which is connected to his arch from foward and under the arch. In the newer Sea Ray Sundancer line, that wouldn't work very well as the aft canvas drop/canopy section would require some modifications....It would be difficult to avoid leaks...and cumbersome to access....IMHO

Dominic,
Im in the process of procuring a 1980 360 ec. I too have given some thought to the old design of my stand and have come up with a new design. The new design is hinged on top of the arch and will work for all applications. Trial and error. I plan to do away with the tube look and go with the more modern airfoil look with a sea watch type tv antenna mounted forward and below the radar and the light aft and above. Thanks for helping me jump start my brain.

Phil,

I don't know why it took me so long to stumble on this post, but I just found it.

Very nice job on the radar mount. It looks great besides being functional. Often a home made piece might be the latter, but not the former. You've got a good eye!

Awesome design and looks great. Are the plans for sale? That would work perfectly on my hardtop as I could drop it under the canvas when the boat was in the slip for the week. Save on UV exposure.

TIA

Thank you for the compliment John. It means alot coming from you, I saw the post on the cabin job you did. It is the inspiration for my next project.
David, no plans. I had some free time, alot of scrap aluminum and thats what happend. I will probably take possesion of another project boat in a month or so. If that is the case, I have plans in my head for a new design and that one will come off in the spring. If you are still interested get in touch mith me then.
Phil

Hey Riptide - Did you ever go ahead with your second design for the pivoting radar mount? I was reading old posts and came across this one. Great work, and I'd like to see the newer version if you went ahead with it. Kurt
