I hit some rocks in Boston Harbor coming from Boston Light heading towards the south west side of Lovells. I have a vibration at any rpm above 1600 and the bilge pump kicks on every 4-5 minutes and pumps water for about 5-10 seconds.

Who gets the first call, the insurance company or the dealer where I will have the work done? Does it even matter who I call first?

Considering you are taking on some water. I would at this point call the insurance company. But I would also want to get the boat out of the water asap. Good luck.

Going on little information:

I will assume you are not in a sinking situation or you would not be on CSR.......

I will assume you have damage/bent the prop and/or shaft.....I will once again assume you will take to Russo......Call Russo and let them know you are coming in and would like to go right to the lift and have boat hauled....Once done, take a breath and I would not call insurance company until you know what has happened....You might have a 5K deductable and it is only a prop and the bill will be 2K........Do not let insurance know as it is on record.....If it looks like props, shaft, etc and it will be 10K, then notify insurance company.......Good luck...Let us know

Thanks for the info! I should have waited a little longer for a few more responses...I called the insurance company a short while ago. I was a little uneasy waiting knowing the pump is running every 5 min. I called Russo to let them know I am bringing it in. Thanks again!

Well, I took the boat to Russo Marine and Paul hauled the boat right away. The port side prop shaft was bent, the strut was bent, 80% of 2 blades on the prop was gone, the 3rd blade was bent badly, about 1 1/2 foot of keel was shaved off, both exhaust ports sheared off (that seems very strange only because it doesn't appear that the starboard prop hit anything), and the rudder was bent.

The insurance company has issued a claim # and should be calling Russo asap. Right now I don't know when she's going back in the drink.

Bajan - not to change the subject, but is the photo of your boat taken on the Neponset River, near PNYC?

Yes, that's where it was taken. I took it to Russo that day to have the windsheild vent motor replaced.

I feel your pain. Good luck with everything.

Yikes! Sorry to hear that you had this bad experience. I travel through that area only about once per year. I seem to recall that the channel is pretty well marked, but has high traffic and subject to some severe weather.

Can you tell us more about what happened? How fast were you going? Was it day/night/foggy., etc.? How did you get so far outside the channel? Was anyone on board hurt in the impact?

Thanks for helping others to learn.

I went through the process 2 months ago when I went aground but my damage was to both shafts and props. Boat is running better than it was before the accident and my insurance paid for virtually all of the repairs less the deductible. Good luck with yours.

How long before you got the boat back.

That's no soft grounding. How fast were you going?

Be sure they check carefully for any damage to the hull- I wouldn't be surprised if there is significant structural damage. Sounds like you really "rocked" it...

I wouldn't plan any more on the water activities for this year. Let us know how it works out.

It was about 5-5:15pm, I was heading west into a west wind running about 3500-3800 rpm which gave a speed of about 22-24 mph. No one was hurt, I made it back under my own power running about 5 mph...the tow guys offered their survices to me at $250 for the 1st hr and $200 for every hr thereafter.

I missed thee weekends. The boat was in the water before I got my insurance check. The critical path was getting the new shafts and couplers. The new props were in stock at an area prop shop along with the new cutlass bearings.
