Welcome aboard!

Just some things to consider:

First, why do you want diesel? Is it because gas is hard to get where you are? Safety?

If it's for fuel economy, you're going to have to use that boat an AWFUL lot to recoup the costs of the engines, miscellaneous equipment and install. Granted, you can recoup some (a little bit) of that cost by selling the gas engines.

You'll need new drives, too, since the Alpha's won't survive the increased torque.

Don't get me wrong, I like my engines without spark plugs, but I am curious why you want to do the switch.

By the way, what the price/gallon of gas and diesel where you are?

thank you
price/gallon of gas and diesel are good put the issue is the dealer at home use lees and giving ass hard time what is your advise which engine should I go to ?

Well, I'll let others do the recommending - I haven't done a conversion to be able to give you good advice.

However, you could start by looking at what Sea Ray would have used as a diesel option for your boat. The reason I say that is because you might get lucky and the motor mounting surface may line up with your current set-up. You can see what the option would have been by looking at the specification sheet for your boat - it can be found on Sea Ray's website, if you don't have one.

I won't harp on the price issue. But, just in "rough math" figures, if we assume 30% better economy, you'd have to travel nearly 14,300 miles to break even on every $10,000 you spend. That is also assuming the same $3/gallon of gas vs. diesel... just to keep things easy.

Honestly, the absolute best advice I could give you would be to look around for another boat that already has diesels.

But, that's just my opinion. If money is not a concern, then just hang in there for a bit. I'm sure some more knowledgeable people will chime in with some recommendations.

If you don't see any other responses in two or three days, bump your thread back up to the top.

Good luck! And again, I'm not really trying to deter you - just offering a suggestion.

Thanks again I like my engine put at home dealer is pad and for service and fixing is also hard to deal with them in other hand I can see your opinion is to stick to this type of engine which is most likely for me an reasonable .
If I go for the same engine shell I fix 300 hours power is god with my new transmit ion as alpha one second generation? .
Thanks

A 300HP diesel will likely produce more torque than a 300HP gas engine. I don't think your drive will last very long with a 300HP diesel! Stick with a lower HP diesel and you should be OK. I'd recommend checking to see what combinations of diesel engines/drives Sea Ray used over the years. Check newer years than 1999, too.

hi

If I continue use gas which engine I should go for to be combatable with my gear?

That is the issue, well, part of the issue.

The diesel motors will provide tork beyond what your alpha drive can take.

So you will also need to also swap the drives.

Let me say this differently. By the time you swap out the engines, drives and other necessary components you will have spent more than the boat would bring when you sell it.

You are better off selling this boat and buying what you want then converting this boat from gas to diesel.

Hi I love my boat if I want to fix new gas engines what do you recommend? thanx

Hi Juma,

I'd stick with the 350's. Makes everything easy. They can be had very inexpensively, too. If you want something with some more punch, try a 350MAG or a 383. Check out Merc's website in regards to those. There's a gentleman on this board - "Rabyers1" - with a 260DA that just re-powered with a 383.

Are the engines bad? Or are you thinking about the future?

I can't comment on how much your boat is worth. Especially since you're a little bit out of my area:smt001

Are the current engines bad? Whether it's worth it or not, monetarily, to re-power depends on many factors. Purchase price, condition of the rest of the boat, to name a few. Also, and probably one of the most important things, how long you intend to keep the boat can have a big impact on what you do with the engines.

Around here, I can easily find re-man 350 long blocks for $2K each. On average, again around here, figure another $2K to pull the old engine, transfer accessories and re-install. Maybe less, maybe more, but the labor is in that range.

Don't let us sway you from diesels, if your heart is really set on it. It certainly can be done... it's just extremely costly. For most people, it's not a wise choice. But, for you, it may be a good one. Only you can make that call.

the gas in my home 1$ for one gallon

and the engines prices around 17000$ for each this is average
