this is the gunk sitting in my fram bulkhead-mounted cartridge fuel filters, which is the first line of defense as the fuel leaves the tanks. the bracket mounted water separating filters were spotless and there was no water in them. these filters were last changed in the fall of 2006. i waited til the spring to change them, since the boat sat on land all winter. figured it'd give more time for the stuff to settle out. i filtered gasoline through an ordinary coffee filter. i thought this was interesting enough to share...

That's why I just added another set of filters to my set up. Fuel does not seem to be getting any better, especially if you end up buying it from places you do not routinely visit.

Hey Ron....That's a neat idea to cut that bottle in half, invert it into itself and then add a coffee filter....:smt038....drill a few holes, thread in some hoses, add a 12 volt pump and put a guage on it and you've got a fuel polishing system....

I wonder how many microns a coffee filter is anyway.......?????

Dominic,

I think that is how Tiara does it... it's a patented system only available from them.. And Ron is trying to copy it so I'm sure he'll hear from weaver or something.

Uh Oh!!!!.....He's Pirating....:wow:.....Maybe he should use those green colored bottles...that way there won't be any patent infringment...

pretty astute of you to notice that! i use the conical filters. i think tiara and bayliner use those sort of corrugated cylindrical ones to save money!

not sure about particle size size but the gas in the bottom is crystal clear. at >$3.50 per gallon, you bet your boots i'm pouring the double filtered gasoline back into the filter before re-install! by the way, after each filtration, i changed the filter (i think i used 2 or 3 all together.

Hey....I think I was just called "Ass toot"....we need more moderating here.....

Don't pour that fuel back into your system. The plastic bottle trick is cool for checking fuel and viewing, but the plastic will not stand up to the fuel. If you pour the fuel back in the tank, part of the bottle will go with it.
