We went down to the St. Petersburg Grand Prix yesterday.
We had an awesome time but couldn't seem to get the anchor to stick. So we spent the first 2 hours trying to set it.
In the process of my many attempts I see a Sundancer across the bay who seems to have his anchor firmly set. The Skipper who sees I'm having a tough time waves us over to raft up with him. We tie off and dropped our hook and finally I got to enjoy the rest of the day.
Low and behold It's another CSR member Mystic Dreamer.
I wanted to thank Brian( I think that was your name as I went into a Coors light coma later that day) for his hospitality. Had it not been for his help we probably would have left as it was getting pretty crowded and was quite windy.
All in all it was nice to meet another CSR member who made our day a success instead of a wash out.

Hi Jack, Great story.

Hijack Alert!

Gosh we had another CSR get ogether this week end as well. Ray (Ray306), Randy (Odessey) and I went to Lake Syliva together on Satuday and rafted for a few hours so Ray could show off his new grill! And of course in that infamous CSR support system we have we were pleased to let Ray cook us up a batch of chicken sandwichs!

Later that night we went up the new river and tied up at an Irish Pub, Briney's, and had a great dock side dinner with ample amount sof grog!

CSR rocks!

So what was with the anchor?

So what was with the anchor?

Very silty soft bottom. Almost everyone there was having a problem.
One of those days when you think you have it set open a beer and sit down then you realize hey were moving.
It was truly a pain in the a$$. Wind was at 20 knots and it took me three times to tie up with Mystic Dreamer.

I get it ... that's why I love with a capital L an all chain rode. Hell of the hook doesn't set the pile of chain will hold you in place.!

As an aside. Two years back I switched out my typical galvanized swivel for one of those $2 boat dollar stainless swivels at West and my #45 Delta has never failed to set since. The Delta now works almost as good as a traditional plow (it was going to the bilge.)

Glad ya had a great day!

Chad,
I have all chain rode(3/8) which is pretty big even for my boat.
It still wouldn't grab even with 80 feet of rode in 10 feet of water. Guess I should have dumped the whole 300 feet in a pile that may have done it.

Thanks Jack,

Small world it is! That big 560 was like a sail in those 20kt winds! Anyhow, I was happy to help and it was great to meet a fellow CSR member. My girls loved being able to tour your boat- they told my wife that we need to get one like yours! ( Unfortunately she said no).

As we discussed, this forum has been an unbelievable asset, not only in information, but in making new friends!

Some people say that you have to support your assets to keep them around.

Just when I was ready to donate I get a shameless request for a donation. I will now be pondering as I hate to be shamed into donating.
Thanks for the link I will need it when my pondering is over and I don't feel so shamed. Maybe I should split the money between Gary and Frank. Wait a minute I'm already buying Garys books. I wonder if Frank has any over inflated Backhoe parts that I could buy to make it even.
Support for my asset forthcoming.

Jack,

Just for the record, the plug was directed to Brian and not you (due to his mention of the forum being an unbelievable asset). Also the shameless plug came from me (the volunteer moderator) who sees none of the money that people give Jim for hosting this site. Jim is just to big of a person to do a shameless plug so every now and then I throw it out there for new members who may not be aware that there are cost associated with running a board and I would be willing to bet you that at best Jim breaks about even on the board. I was also trying to be cute and reason for the smiley face. That said I agree if you are paying for advice I would probably pick any one of the Franks, Skip, and Gary as the person I would send my money. Again sorry you saw this as a shamless plug, please hold it against me and not Jim or CSR.

I found it offensive Wes- look back at my user history and you will see I have been a paying member!! I just did not realize that I was expired since I never received a notice or invoice!! I will certainly donate, as I have in the past.

Wes/Jim
I recieved one notice but deleted it and then forgot about it. I just renewed!

I have no problem with Wes' kindly reminders. I'm embarrassed I didn't renew sooner.
