Help they say I need a new engine. 2003 Sea Ray 220

Will update the post when I hear from the machine shop. Last time I had one look like that it had a crack under the exaust valve.
Just to update, machine shop confirms cracked valve seats as suspected. seems to be a possible casting problem with the 305 heads

Wow, kudos to you Bt Doctur, I live in NJ and sadly did not think that there were many honest people left in the Great Garden State but I definitely count you in as an extraordinarily rare example of the sorely missed and near extinct "Good honest solid Guys" Thank you for restoring my faith in New Jerseyians and human kind as a whole!!

Some of us are still around. There is so much work out there no one should be that greedy to tell an owner he needs an engine because its their policy and repairs are a liability factor. Wonder if they sell you a new drive because a seal leaked,
Trying to get "work rights" is another nightmare because you have to pay a commission to the owners to do work. Usually a 20% kicker that the boat owner pays because I`m not going to pay it.
Another local marina by me has so called "weekend mechanics" Except there not there on weekends, so if you break something your weekend is shot.

Update with pics, parts back from the machine shop. 1 head reconditioned, surfaced to remove the warp, other head as shown. This is magnafluxed and you can clearly see the problem with it. Received the second head today.Hoping to start re-assembly tomorrow

I can't recall seeing that portion of the valve seat cracked 2 places almost 180* apart if I'm seeing that right. Wonder if it was a defective casting in that area?

There is money on the Shrewsbury river the the marinas know it... They believe that people with boats, and live in that area, don't care about what they spend... I am glad to hear BT Doctur was able to help you out... If you want to come south to Barnegat Bay, you wont run into problems like you have experienced...
I'll second what Rod said. I think I used to be at the marina in the Shrewsbury River that your at many years ago. Moving the boat to a better Marina made a big difference.

If I can get a prorated partial refund from the marina I'm at I plan on leaving and moving to the Bakers Landing marina. If not I'll finish out the term.

A reconditioned head, some new valves, a new head, some minor cleanup and a oil change and I think were getting there.
Not to mention putting it back together

BT, it was a combo of things Memorial Day weekend all but 1 mechanic took the week off, ordered the wrong u-joint, bad - neg tides for launching & pulling the boat during work hours some -3.2. It's a busy marina because their good, stand by their work & nobody can match them on cost. I should of had it hauled out a month earlier.

Well the water test was a success and the boat is tied up in the new slip.
Will have a oil change in about 20 hours and another 1/2 pint of Marvel Mystery Oil.

Yes, thanks to Bt I finally have a working boat ready for the summer.
