OK, I had my mechanic out today to do a general service and since I have mostly had the boat at idle for the last 6 months, he said I need new spark plugs. I know what I used before were AC Delco 41-983 Iridium, and I had found an amazing deal on ebay one time, but now that deal is not there, and the plugs are VERY expensive. Anyone know the best place to purchase, and if there is another brand that does the same job but at a lower cost? Is it too late for me to run the boat hard and get rid of the carbon on the plugs? The plugs were new about a year and a half ago, and I have probably only put about 30 hours on the boat since. But that will change as I head over to Bimini in about 2 weeks.

any help is appreciated!!

Thanks

Barry

Sure you can glass bead them. If the boat is running decent, I would personally run them. That's alot of cash and labor to change them out.

Those plugs are crazy expensive ... That's why I'm wondering if there is a good source or another brand generic that would work as well.

Any other ideas?

I bought mine from a seller on Ebay for about $3 each. Maybe email the seller and see if they have any more? They were the OEM replacement and they work great. You can probably get them at an auto parts store but the part number may have been supersceeded with a newer number. If your current plugs only have a 1.5 years and 30 hours on them why are you replacing them? Did they get fouled somehow?

Napa...westmarine...any AC Delco dealer

the 41-805 is the platinum alternative

10.83 list 5.85 jobber cost

If your engines are 350 Mag MPI's and you installed AC Delco 41-983 then you installed the wrong plugs. The newest AC recommend plug would be AC 41-993 Merc part number 33-884019001 or Merc is now selling part number 33-8M2018369 (AKA) NGK ITR4A15 sold in a package of 4. The NGK's came after the release of the service bulletin below.

The 41-983 is used in the 496 engine model.

Thanks!! so I can use either NGK or AC Delco.. and thanks for the bulletin. I will look for the 993's or the NGK.

You're welcome.:smt001

Yes you can use NGK or AC Delco as long as it's one of the numbers i posted. I personally do not recommend using anything else though.

Google the part numbers, You will find them much cheaper + call your auto stores and your Chevy/GMC dealers. Better prices are out there, You just need to do your home work to find it.

Will do.. Some say Platinum and some say iridium.. That's the same thing?

I bought my 41-983's straight from a chevy dealer for like $6.83 each...

is there a difference between the platinum version and the iridium version?

Thanks.. Looks like Iridium is a little better than Platinum... Will try those and see how they work..
Thanks again,
Barry
