So I pull the carpet yesterday out of the cockpit and good amount of the backing is glued to the cockpit sole. Any one have a good way to get all the black guck up with out spending a couple weeks scrubbing inch by inch. it's real bad....HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't know for sure what type of glue was used there but, you may try some 3M Trim adhesive remover. It may make it easier to get up.

it's not glue, it's the backing from the cockpit carpet that has adhered it's self to the deck.

Mineral oil? i'll try it this weekend...since I have to leave on travel tomorrow..

our 99 330 da did the same thing, had no trouble to get it off:
take the carpet out, spray the remaining, stuck backing with warm water, and
after a few minutes , a rag will just take off the stuff. also means that the carpet
is shot. to get by the rest of the season before we replaced the carpet, we put old sheetsw between the fiberglass and the carpet, to prevent repeat occurance.

it appears that this happens mostly in areas where the carpet is wet repeatedly and/or
it does not dry out completely.

Someone on this forum repaired the backing by painting a rubber compound back onto the carpet.

I'd be insterested to know what they did cause the top of the carpet is in perfect condition it's just the backing that is completely shot. looks and feels like hardened tar

I purchased clear vinyl from a craft shop. It looks like shower curtain material and even Walmart has this in the sewing area. I then cut the shape to match the carpet and used a headliner glue. Basically this only adhered to the rubber backing which was still in tack but it kept the rest from falling apart and has given me another year or two from my carpet. If I were to do it again I would find a better glue, but it works.

That's standard - search this site for the discussion. He seemed to spell it out pretty well.

When I first got my '90 DA, most of the deck was covered by a (black) rubber-backed carpet that seemed to attract dirt, so I decided to pull the carpet off. At first, it was extremely tedious, but then I tried a product called "Goop-Off." Still had to use some elbow grease, but it made the job a lot easier. It's not expensive and you can find it readily at Home Depot/Lowes, etc.
