Any help?

Hi everyone I am hoping to get some help from some ppl with more experience. I have a 74 srv240 with a 302. I had trouble starting it the other day just cranked n cranked. All of the sudden not even cranking clicking , just silence it was a old battery I put a new one in I also changed the solenoid. Now I have no power to the starter side post on the solenoid. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Re: Any help?

Not sure but is there a fusible link in the wiring for the starter? Just an idea. Many automotive applications use them.

Re: Any help?

Joseph not that I see, everything checks out with a test light with the exception of that post. I thought possibly I had it h/u wrong or neutral safety switch??

Re: please help

Dead battery?

Re: please help

it was drained changed the battery and solenoid now i have no power on the starter side of the solenoid it will crank if i bypass it.

Sorry you are having issues. I think a little more information will be required. First things first; have you checked the battery?

Re: please help

Sounds like the starter solenoid may be bad. Try a few taps with the butt end of a screwdriver to see if it releases it. Probably best to test and replace though. If you can bypass it and start the engine it's most likely the solenoid.

BTW, try not to start more than one thread on one subject. People tend to get cranky...

battery was drained and we were attempting to jump it motor was cranking then next thing i know dead. changed the battery then starter solenoid. now i have voltage to solenoid but not on the big post on the starter side? it will crank if i bypass the solenoid

Are any other electrical items effected by this? IOW- is everything else working fine just the engine won't turn over?

Re: please help

ok on the threads ty i did replace the solenoid but no pwr to starter side post

New parts are not always good. Can you bypass and start?

Re: please help

Could be either the ignition switch or the solenoid. Test, test, test. Check from the solenoid back to the switch and all components in between. I still guess new solenoid is no good.

Re: please help

will do i did put a test light on switch and one contact had pwr another had power when key was switched to start position beyond that i do not know how else to check it

Possibly the ignition switch went bad or one of it's wires are broken/loose.

Had that problem once,a wire slipped down along the side of the battery box that belonged on the battery terminal,i think it was a ground, took me a few hrs to figure it out ,DUH.
