Anybody else from around the area? Travel Frequently from Norfolk to Wilmington. Always around Ocracoke and Little Washington.

Wlecome Mick. My wifes family were some of the original settlers of Belhaven and Bath so we stop in the area from time to time. Where is your boat moored at? SB

Mick,
welcome, holly crap thats either some really fancy lens work with the camera or you got you one beautifully long Sundancer:smt038:smt038 Good to put your boat info in the sig line to help anyone contributing to your threads with the specifics of your situation.. Year, Model, Power, Drives etc....

Welcome to CSR from South East Ga.

Welcome to the club, thanks for placing your boat information in your signature. Always good to have another Carolina boy on the board.

Welcome - nice to see another Eastern NC person on-line. You've made quite the jump in boat sizes!! I thought 'itis' was only a few feet at a time....

Welcome Mick. Great looking boat! Used to be a Carolina Boy, born and raised in Asheville.

Thanks everyone. Travis, Do you get out the Oregon inlet? I have heard that it is tricky. We do like to get up to Manteo but just got this boat and do not know if I can get it in the docks up there. Is there any public docks around Nags Head?

I've traveled down that way several times.... I've come into Oregon Inlet once from the ocean and my dark flowing hair turned into its current gray straw type in 5 minutes. There are soundings you can download from the corp of engineers and they update it about once a month. Something about the two foot wave in front of you turning into a breaking 8 footer as you get near "temp markers"....

I lost our pictures from 2 years ago when we were down there for a month but here are some shots from 2003:

Manteo is a good weekend trip for us and they do have public docks... they charge you... but they are owned by the city. If you want to get over to the beach, you'll have to rent a car. The Ford dealer there will rent you a junker for a few bucks to use for a few days... and they'll deliver it to the marina.

Thanks for the info Gary. Next time you get to Belhaven look us up. We are just around the corner from where your boat is pictured at River Forest. You have a great looking boat there. Always looking for good places to go around NC and SE Virginia.

There are lots of good places around SE Virginia beyond Norfolk. If you want to come up to Williamsburg, there is Kingsmill/Busch Gardens and the marina there is pretty nice... Smithfield is also on the James there which is a neat little town. You are also not that far away from some of the places up on the Rappahanock (I'm sure I spelled that wrong) like Urbanna and the Tides Inn...

hey- I do boat out of Oregon Inlet and it's definitely a tricky place. I've been doing it for about 12 years - but shallow draft boats definitely make it easier. A Grady White and currently a Parker are significantly less stressful to take through than my boat - I can only imagine a larger boat such as Gary's or yours.

The cut through (or short cut) from the Coast Guard station over to the bridge is nice but you have to pay attention to how close you are to the temp markers. If you run about 20 feet off you typically are in 8-12 feet of water and it shaves about 15-20 mins off the trip.

There are a lot of places to go around here - I haven't done any long distance cruising yet and mainly do day trips with fishing in the morning until the kids and wife get bored and then we go running around and find a good place to picnic and play.

The docks in Manteo are nice and there are a couple of nice restaurants there. A new marina just opened last year in Wanchese called Broad Creek and they offer transient slips and it is in a protected commercial harbor. Pirates Cove is nice and they offer transient slips and used to have a really good restaurant called Hurricane Moe's but it recently closed.

Wanchese also can haul your boat and replace your props....

So I hear.

We will be in Winston-Salem, NC this weekend to see the Davis Cup, USA vs France..woo hoo! That's tennis for the non-sporting folks on here.
