New Member saying Hi

Just purchased my 10th boat, must be some kind of addiction. I got a 1984 Sundancer with twin 5.7 mercuisers and Alfa 1 drives.
I have been wanting this particular model for a long time and a great deal just fell into my lap. I took her out for the 1st time yesterday with my family and the family of my mechanic. I am extremely happy with the new family toy. I bought it knowing that the port engine has problems. The previous owner told me that he blew a head gasket and the person that did the work didn't mill the head before re-assembly and it blew again. That's why my mechanic was with me. It looks like it maybe just an intake gasket and should have fixed by this weekend. The boat is in decent shape for the age and I got a great deal on it. I had a 24' Bayliner that I picked up for 2k that had the main bearings going bad. Took care of that and sold it for the same price I paid for my Sundancer.
The family loves the 2nd home away from home. The 10' beam really opens up everything.
It doesn't have an A/C unit or generator, and I'm not sure what I want to do about this. Go with a few more house batteries and an evaporitive cooler ( they work OK in the desert ) or a generator an true A/C. Any suggestions, experiences, or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
When we took her out we went to Canyon Lake to the east of Phoenix which has some very steep grades so my F250 7.3 turbo diesel got a work-out and did just fine.
We mostly just motored around with 1 engine and at the end of the day fired up the bad engine to see and hear what the problem might be and I was very impressed with the power of the twin 5.7s. It got on plane much quicker that I thought. It would cruise around 3200 RPMs and felt good but at about 2900 it would start to fall off plane, I think it is propped wrong, I had 5 adults and 2 children, ice chests, gear, full water and 1/2 tank of fuel.
It currently has 17" 3 blade aluminum and I think 19" stainless 4 blade would perform better.

This looks like a great web-site with tons of info

I need to figure out the easiest way to post pics

Welcome Aboard!
We have started a specific 270DA thread you fit right into - check it out for common issues and ideas, chime in as you like: http://clubsearay.com/showthread.php/52504-Official-(1982-1988)-270DA-Thread

As far as props on our 270DA I am running 19" pitch 5 blade stainless behind a pair of 3.8, 185hp, v6's, 3,900 r.p.m. @ 30 m.p.h.
We have different engines so it's tough to compare
Best of luck getting the bugs out!

Welcome aboard.

Hi Mike,

We have the exact set up you just purchased so congratulations. We have been working on the boat since September and have made significant strides. Many pictures although not all are posted on photobucket at the link below. When you have specific questions let me know and I will tell you if we had to deal with that item or not.

Best Mike

In mean time I will consider the things I would watch list for you

Much appreciated, I'm sure I will be looking for advice.

I figured Canyon would be a really good test for the ole F250. The 7.3 turbo did great, however I did pull over once to let the Sheriff and 2 other cars go by:wow:.
I think I'll go to Saguaro this weekend

Saguaro is a $hit hole. and I've kinda decided I don't want to go to the Lower salt river lakes anymore...not very friendly people, the water is nasty, and over crowded. From now on its Roosevelt or Apache, even though they take longer to get to and APache is a bear to get down to.

I will be at Lake Pleasant this weekend for Marine Maxs' Aquapalooza.

What part of town are you in?

I agree about saguaro. We have been thinking about just keeping at Apache, but I have alot of things I want to do the boat so it is better keeping it at home.

I'm around Mckellips and Ironwood so for me it is probably the same to get to Roosevelt as Pleasant

Gotcha, 101 and southern myself. You ever need a hand with anything let me know. I travel a lot for work, but when I'm home, would be more than happy to lend a hand. I love working on these things!
