New Member saying Hi
Just purchased my 10th boat, must be some kind of addiction. I got a 1984 Sundancer with twin 5.7 mercuisers and Alfa 1 drives.
I have been wanting this particular model for a long time and a great deal just fell into my lap. I took her out for the 1st time yesterday with my family and the family of my mechanic. I am extremely happy with the new family toy. I bought it knowing that the port engine has problems. The previous owner told me that he blew a head gasket and the person that did the work didn't mill the head before re-assembly and it blew again. That's why my mechanic was with me. It looks like it maybe just an intake gasket and should have fixed by this weekend. The boat is in decent shape for the age and I got a great deal on it. I had a 24' Bayliner that I picked up for 2k that had the main bearings going bad. Took care of that and sold it for the same price I paid for my Sundancer.
The family loves the 2nd home away from home. The 10' beam really opens up everything.
It doesn't have an A/C unit or generator, and I'm not sure what I want to do about this. Go with a few more house batteries and an evaporitive cooler ( they work OK in the desert ) or a generator an true A/C. Any suggestions, experiences, or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
When we took her out we went to Canyon Lake to the east of Phoenix which has some very steep grades so my F250 7.3 turbo diesel got a work-out and did just fine.
We mostly just motored around with 1 engine and at the end of the day fired up the bad engine to see and hear what the problem might be and I was very impressed with the power of the twin 5.7s. It got on plane much quicker that I thought. It would cruise around 3200 RPMs and felt good but at about 2900 it would start to fall off plane, I think it is propped wrong, I had 5 adults and 2 children, ice chests, gear, full water and 1/2 tank of fuel.
It currently has 17" 3 blade aluminum and I think 19" stainless 4 blade would perform better.
This looks like a great web-site with tons of info
I need to figure out the easiest way to post pics
