heated storage

I've heard enough. Every storage building I know of fills each year and many have waiting lists. It's time to buy some land near water, slap a building together, add heat and back-up heat and sit back and collect checks!

Woody, do you have any evidence (anecdotal or otherwise) that it does what it claims to do?

As I mentioned, by spring the water in my tank appears to be free from growth just with a bleach treatment, but if anything it's the "plasticky" smell/taste that concerns me. That's an even bigger problem with dockside water hoses. If I could treat new hoses to block plastic from the water I'd buy all new hoses today.
Years ago I didn't know about water tank maintenance/bleach/additives. I did have stinky water a couple times. Reading here at CSR has kind of led me to the current method.

Even when I just bleached I sometimes had odors. I saw this Star Brite stuff several years ago, things seemed to improve. I do use more water than I used to, I bleach once a season, and use this stuff. I really don't know where the credit should lie. We don't drink the water, don't know how it would taste, but it doesn't stink and that was my goal.

It's easy to use, for my 100gal tank one spoonful dissolved in a glass of water then poured in the tank, then fill it up.

At $10 a sqft…. That's $2,300 more than what we pay in my area using my boat as an example.... That's a significant amount of money to get work well done.
These are privately owned units so prices vary. They often include a kitchen, full bath and shower. They also hold multiple boats so people get together on weekends and help each other do various projects on their boats. Many enjoy a potluck diner after a day of work, have cocktails on their boats and then sleep over night there. While the rent may be steep, there are considerable savings on projects and there is the added fun factor. Not such a bad deal if you look at it that way.

You should take it to the next level and make ice cubes and starting drinking it. You haven't lived until you drink tank water. Think of the cost savings you achieve by not buying bottled water and marina ice. Those items cost more than fuel for your boat.

Well what the heck?.... you kinda left out the justification :)

My biggest complaint where I have heated stored is getting kicked out at 5:00pm and I am too far away so I stay in a hotel... Which sucks waiting around for the next day when I could be working on the boat

We make ice with our tank water for drinks.... And I am still around :)

Just curious - where do you store?

And this is my dilemma. Set to store 15 miles from my slip and I stored my last big boat there (indoor cold storage). Haven't had any issues with water damage, but like all would rather prevent it. More concerned with water getting where it shouldn't be - not just water systems/engines. Not a fan of having mechanics over my boat and inevitablely getting it dirty (I keep it spotless). But, I have 24/7 access to the boat and am in that area very often.

North Shore will do indoor heated for the same price I'm paying for indoor cold, fully winterized. Down side is limited access to the boat and it's 85 miles away...would need a nice weather window for it to work!
