Hardwood Flooring Project in a 410DA

Looks great, Ken. Looking at the cockpit, it's funny how our boats become our homes with small workshop in them...LOL

I'm sure you're exhausted, but the results are very rewarding.

Looking good, looking forward to the end product. This is on my to do list as well, have been tossing between a product similar to what you are putting down or The fake teak lino

Another weekend of pain and progress. This should all be completed and cleaned up (thanks to the Admiral) next weekend. The only item that I won't complete by next weekend is hinging the hatches. Here are a few shots of the progress.

Ken,

How are you going to keep the hatches from rattling? What are you going to use for hatch pulls?

Looking great,

Pete

I will use the same pulls and I will be hinging the hatches with hinges that lock in at 90 and 180 degrees. Worst case scenario will be removing the 1/4" filler piece and add some felt or something. Hinging the hatches will be an entire separate task with a lot of work but will make it very easy to access. It's amazing how much crap (I mean necessary supplies) the Admiral keeps below the hatches.

So just in the interest of curiosity, did you consider the difference in the weight between the carpet and wood flooring and how that affects the planing/stability of the boat? I have a 340 DA and was thinking of putting wood flooring in the mid cabin salon but felt it would add weight to the aft section causing adjustments to planing and trim. I know that we are only talking a bout 200 lbs or less (ie. a fat guy) but with the cost of fuel I am curious if there are any differences post modification that are noticeable.

So, I run about 225 lbs at 6' 2"...... you are calling me a fat guy? Actually, the weight is insignificant on my boat.

I have hard wood in my 340. I have never noticed a difference in performance.

So I've always wondered - why isn't there a compartment in the floor in front of the couch like in front of the galley? What is under there anyway?

Regardless, great looking job Ken - doesn't look like bamboo; at least like I've seen it....

Not sure why no hatch but it's full of foam.

Update: I finished the floor with the exception of some trimming of some of the vertical carpet edges and a piece of bullnose for the step down to the mid-berth. I was real tired and didn't leave the marina until 8:30PM yesterday after completely cleaning everything inside and out so I missed snapping photos. I'll shoot some this weekend before we pack it for a 3-days trip. I am happy with the results but there are a couple of pieces next to a hatch that I want to remove and replace. For now I can deal with an imperfection. I do still need to complete the hinging of the hatches which will be another chore.

I snapped a few pictures on the way out this afternoon. I have a few touch up items and I want to remove and replace a couple of pieces I don't like but here is the "finished" product. I also need to re-glues some of the carpet trim. We probably had 30 or more friends climb down to check it out over the weekend with pretty good reviews. No, I am not for hire......probably.

Looks great! Next time we cross paths, I hope you'll let me invite myself to take a look. If I didn't already have wood floors, I might be asking your price! :)

You are welcome any time Dan. As a matter of fact, we have a life jacket event at Perry's on May 17th and you are invited to come over by boat or by land. Bill Wells from the Yachtsman will be there to take photos. This is an event to try and break the record for people wearing PFD's all at one time and promote swearing them. May 16th is wear a PFD to work day?

Can you post a pic of the hinges on the floor hatches.....

Looks great!

I will when I get them installed. Need a break to polish her up first!
