Happy Labor Day.

Daughter is home (in graduate school at UNC), heading to the lake - first real day on the new Cobalt. For me the real boating is just starting, love being on the lake in the fall - much less people, still warm and the leaves starting change. From now to Thanksgiving is great.

On the boat for the weekend with no plans but to stay hydrated and in the AC. We are at the beginning of a monster heat wave over the next 5 days of 103-114. Where we keep the boat typically is 10 to 15 degrees cooler than the ranch just 25 miles inland. We just hope PG&E can keep the power on but if not I’ve got 500 gallons of diesel on board. I’ve got friends on the next dock string from us that have no power due to faulty wiring, been three days now and no promises as to when their power will be restored. Their gennys are getting a work out this weekend for sure!
Happy Labor Day everyone

Memorial Day and Labor Day are my two favorite days to stay local. The rest of the Treasure Valley tends to head out to the mountains and lakes around here, so the town quiets down quite nicely. Last night's commute was 65+mph all the way home (very unusual), and there's no way that I'd dare drag the boat out to mix with the Great Unwashed during this time. Besides, I still have a generator that needs some TLC (or a bigger hammer...)

Was going to cross Bay to see our favorite local band today. Got a text from that marina they were full, and Maryland popo been advertising aggressive dui enforcement all weekend. Often on holiday weekends they will have an evening dragnet across river mouth. Don’t need that aggravation.
So we opted to take the zodiac down river to tiki bar. Sitting here now loving life.
Gorgeous day and first time wife came out on new zodiac and Suzuki. She likes it! Don’t really matter if it’s the yacht or the dinghy as our chariot. Anything floating off the tiki bar is a good day.
Probably do same tomorrow and Monday.

Headed to the boat now but think I'm having a battery issue so hopefully no issues. Really don't want to buy new batteries 2 weeks before we pull it for the winter. But supposed to storm later today and tomorrow and Monday so not sure then. But marina is having a party tomorrow so we will be there for that at least.

Boatman, aren’t you in Pittsburgh? Pulling in 2 weeks? I’m thinking 2 months, you ain’t that much north.
lol. yeah. We usually pull out around 3rd or 4th week of September. Gets too chilly after that for us. Another reason is we store in an underground mine and if you wait till the last minute you get the worst spots. I don't think we have ever been in in October. And with having issues last night probably won't be going out much. Think my batteries are on the way out and don't want to buy new ones this late in the season (see my other post about that)

I need to replace one bank of batteries, but going to wait until spring also. My wife is spending the weekend at a rodeo with her parents that are in their late 80's. They've been going to all the local rodeos forever.
I'm spending the weekend getting stuff together for a week long cruise with a couple other CSR members.
Going to the boat tomorrow for a short cruise, all the way to the fuel dock to fill up and pump out.

After our cruise up to Sault Ste Marie, MI, we spent the last two weeks in Mackinaw City and Mackinac Island. Left the Island on Thursday to make room for the weekend crowd. Labor Day more or less marks the end of boating here in the northern Great Lakes. There will be some nice days, but cool and breezy usually becomes the norm in pretty short order. I'll play in the Crestliner for the rest of the year when I need to be close to the water. We noticed the fall color emerging in the woods just south of the Straits this afternoon.

Nice!

I'm going to try my hand at polishing and waxing it instead.
Waxing is fun. Wax on, wax off. I did Beachcomber a few years back from the bottom paint all the way up to the upper level. The hardest part was the brow in front of the upper helm.

The old Toyota is an '81. Tina's dad bought it new and it's still in the family, available to anyone who needs a pickup for awhile. I hauled all my waxing materials around in it. :)

We have been on board since Wednesday afternoon. We are on Anderson Island, Oro Bay. Tacoma Yacht Club and Bremerton Yacht Club have outstations here between the two of us we have close to 100 boats. Tonight is a joint party with both clubs. The picture was Wednesday before everyone got here.

My daughter is in from Austin this weekend. Went to Ocean Beach on Fire Island for lunch yesterday and out to our local cove today. Have my nephew’s sons 3yo birthday party tomorrow and weather is iffy for late tomorrow and Monday.
Hopes everyone has a safe and happy Labor Day!
