Guns in Canada

I had a bunch of replies to a bunch of folks, but I just finished reading through all 8 pages & it’s late, so…

You can see my handle…I’m pro 2A & retired Marine. US Citizens won’t face the US Military in any case. Guard - maybe. The US Military as already stated, is purposed to defend the Constitution. They can’t be called to serve inside our borders. The National Guard, however falls under their respective state’s authority & is called to serve in many times - typically in response to natural disasters. They serve in their state’s borders and when called upon, to augment the US Military - and when that happens, they fall under Title 10 USC just like US Military. These are your neighbors.

If there were to be a successful revolution, it would be in the form of states succeeding from the Union (sound familiar? Texans take pride in being the only state that used to be its own country).

Mail-in ballots should be reserved for those geographically unable to make it to the polls & you should prove you are who you are to cast your ballot.

Long ago I read the reason Japan never attempted to land on mainland USA was because every one had a gun in the US. The comment was there was a standing army of 180 million made up of a lot of seniors who knew how to hunt.
Canada at one time allowed people to own guns without permits. I think Canada found they can tax people when they get a gun. A few years ago the CDN government made every one who owned a gun register it and pay an annual feel. Now it is a one time fee when you get a gun.
You all in Canada is this correct?

Democrats. It's always Democrats.

I felt like I had seen this before, maybe a movie? Wait, the 2020 Presidential election.

And the New York Times was mis-reporting in 1946....shocking!

The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Most of the current Democratic Party bears no resemblance to the party of 5-10 yrs ago...trust me.

I would take Bill Clinton's policies over the last 10+ years of democrats all day long. Granted, he was forced to the center after the "contract with America", but still.

“You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.”

And after Pearl Harbor Attack: "I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve".

― Both by Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto

At least he was fiscally pretty responsible and tough on immigration.

Maybe…. As a supporter of the 2A, I always liked the sound of that phrase, but the quote may be not quite true. Still and all, there are a lot of guns here, so let them think it.

Hmm… here in the UK we have stringent gun laws, even owning a shotgun (not pump) is difficult and UK police will visit you in your home to check that the registered weapon is there and it is secured in the correct way.
It is very rare for mass shootings (we have had some bad ones) and often victims of a firearm incident are gang led contract shootings between rivals, there have been some collateral loss of life.

Most people here feel safe when going about their business, those up to no good face a different story, knife crime is on the increase, but a knife isn’t anywhere as effective for mass killing as an AR-15 equipped shooter.

A good friend is an ex-firearms copper, resident in a tough northern city, he says that in the UK, the nasty weapons such as assault rifles are used in gangland warfare. Villains use mainland European sourced handguns for robbery and contract killings, husbands/wives use shotguns on each other when required and the rest of the guilty population get traffic citations…

if the UK introduced gun laws, mass killings will go up as will more gun crime. There are only so many squirrels to shot in the UK before we would start on each other!

Owning a weapon is a constitutional right for you, glad we don’t have that in the UK.
How long before they outlaw knives?!

Compared to developed countries the US has vastly more deaths per capita. Even compared to all countries you are one of the highest. Not sure where you get your info from but there are lots of data sources and they all give the same result. But it’s your constitutional right. That’s fine. You don’t need o skew stats to justify it. It’s your right.

I don’t feel that we need guns to protect ourselves from our government. I vote and I trust our democracy and democratic system. I may not like what the majority has voted in but I don’t need guns to fight the government. Maybe to defend from another government or country like Israel needs to do, but not our own. Again, your experience and needs are clearly different.
My understanding of the US gun death statistics is that when you remove the deaths caused by suicide and the criminals shooting each other, they drop drastically.
If/when our government ever succeeds in disarming the legal/law abiding gun owners, the only ones left with guns will be the criminals and police…. who ironically, are being defunded in all the liberal cities and states where the crime rates are at their highest.

They should instead enforce the laws currently on the books and bring back the insane asylums for the crazies.

I would have to disagree. Most of the military are still Americans. If we really needed to, we are still in a position of strength. Not sure for how much longer, but I still think for the foreseeable future they will still fear the people.
I recently heard that a democratic senator is going to recommend a vote on giving citizenship to any illegal alien that passes a background check if they do four years in any branch of the armed forces.
You take that, and the fact that the government thinned out the armed forces of conservative soldiers who refused to get vaccinated, you then are left with soldiers who will use any force against anyone, regardless of whether they’re foreign, or domestic.

As Highslice said, we are not a true democracy. Majority doesn't necessarily rule. Sure freedom has boundaries, but it's not the people who determine those boundaries. Our Constitution, by design, protects the minority position. In the USA, we have certain rights that the majority cannot trample, yet they try. The 2nd Amendment is ensure those right are secured should the other three branches of government break down.
Don’t forget the fourth branch… the lobbyists!
