We have some friends in from out of town and put around 90 miles on the Laguna today. Very comfortable and great ride. Finally got the new name on recently, too.
Upon leaving the Jupiter inlet we were greeted with a 2-3' following sea which I was very comfortable with. As we got is we got closer to the St. Lucie inlet the seas got more like 4-6'. Although rough, the Laguna handled the seas well and was a fairly comfortable ride. As we made the turn towards the inlet, heather indicated to me that she saw an overturned boat. I told her she was crazy and continued, but upon her insistence I looked closer and realized there was indeed a capsized boat. This is what we found....and we were the only boat in the water.
I would not normally think about taking pics at a time like this but the coast guard asked me to and gave me a number to text them too. I made it clear to them that I had 4 souls on board and their safety in these building seas was my priority but I would remain in the area searching until they arrived on scene as long as it was reasonably safe. The Sheriffs dept was on scene about 10 min after my initial emergency call. The coast guard was Amazing with me on the radio and made me feel so good about what they do in an emergency. Good news...about 3 minutes after they got on scene it came across the radio that the soul occupant had made it to shore. Great day on the water and because it ended happily, I'm so much more confident in the way the coast guard responds when needed.
P.S. After being in easily 5-6' seas, I'm even more in love with my Laguna!! So are my guests.
