Can anyone recommend a good quality fender holder for the grab rail on our boats? I'm thinking I'd like to put them up closer to where I use them and get them out of my lazerette.

thanks

i am interested in this also...i had to buy new fenders for our 340 and i went with 10" diameter fenders....they are a little large for this size boat but i would rather have the extra protection....they will not fit in lazerette so i will need to store them on the deck rail also...

I had some on my previous boat. Quit using them.

Was too much of a hassle cruising. One afternoon I am at a floating dock, want fenders hanging down. Next day putting fenders between piers and the side. Different heights all the time. In the end, just faster to tie.

On the current boat when I replaced fenders, I rigged a loop on the bottom so that a fender can be tied vertical or horizontal very quickly - easy to switch back and forth.

Just my personal preference. A lot of people use hangers - especially on larger boats - so a lot of people must prefer them.

I'm talking about something like this...

I would just like some recommendations on type....I've read a couple threads here where particular ones were cheaply made and fell apart.

Here is a photo showing mine. I was unable to find anything of quality for sale so I made them. If you really want a nice set up, have some custom made.

We don't sell a lot of these, but it seems we've sold more of the Windline brand than anything else. The one time I ordered a few in, I do remember them being nicer. I don't recall the other brands, though. But I will say, they all (at least the ones I've personally seen) seem to made of thinner metal (whether strap or rod) than I would've imagined.

just looked Windline up....your right they do look thinner than you would expect...Windline has some HD ones (according to their listings)....$149 a pop..... https://www.google.com/webhp?source...+fender+rack&tbm=shop&spd=6765762096794266934

I'm reasonablly sure that's them. The brackets that hold two together, the brackets that attach them to the rail are sold seperately. I'm talking about the ones in your photo.

have these on my current boat. really nice welded construction. not the flat riveted. really nice clamps as well
well worth the money. will purchase again if i get another boat. Some I see on other boats look like they could fall off at any minute they are so cheap.

Thats what I'm talkin about.....real world experience...thanks

Gotcha...thanks

I have Jim Buoy brand fender baskets on my boat. Most of the time I love having fenders in the baskets as opposed to taking up valuable storage space. Sometime they impede visibility and I silently curse them out.

Overall, I find that these SS straps held up very well for 8 seasons now (better than I expected) and adjustable angle makes it easier to line them up with the stanchions. They came with ss mounting brackets and ss hardware but I found their stock bolts too short for 1" rails. No big deal.

I don't recall the exact model of the Windline ones (it's been probably 2 or more years since I got one into the store), but they always came with mounting hardware... at least they used to. The customers that have bought the ones we had are, for the most part, long time customers and they've never said there's been any problems with them, for whatever that's worth. Windline is a good company - and Sea Ray has been using their parts for a long time - things such as anchor rollers and ladders, etc. So I guess that while they look on the thin side, they must be doing the job. Since they're only holding the weight a few fenders, they probably don't need to be overly beefy. But, certainly, if you can find something more substantial at a reasonable price, that would be good.

I never liked the idea of the racks on my boat as I felt like it cut down too much on my view. But on a longer deck like yours, with the racks further away from you, it probably doesn't impede your view quite as much or as often.

Is is there a price sheet somewhere on those?

Sorry - I misunderstood the question.

Yes, I have fender baskets, hold 3 fenders on each side, for a total of 6.

Love them!!!!!!

Not sure I would want them on a Dancer, would wonder about visibility impact - but on a Fly Bridge they are great.

No clue what brand - they were on the boat when purchased.

Just a thought... You know, as I think more about this, I think SR400DB has the right idea. Come up with your own design and have a local welder or machine shop make it for you. It would be a neat project, you'd get exactly what you want and even support local economy. Besides, a good welder is a good person to know.

One thing that bothered me when I was searching, was the available units were all made from a different (smaller) diameter tubing. May not bother some, but I wanted them to be made of the same diameter as the bow rails.

My boat had fender baskets mounted when I got it, but I found they impacted visibility when docking so I took them off. They are still floating around up in the attic of my garage someplace.
It was nice to have them to store the fenders, much better than finding space for them elsewhere, but they just got in the way.

We are using a Taylor Made fender rack like the one shown below but only for two fenders. It's been very durable and the adjustability allows you to match the lines of the railing.

Next trip to the boat is 27th. Will take pictures of the baskets and measurements then. I imagine someone can identify the brand. Thinking we have 10" fenders. The basket holds them well, but would not hold the next size up.
