Looking to add GPS to my 215 EC, Im trying to decide whether to go Fixed Mount, the Garmin 441, or handheld, the Garmin 76csx. I cannot decide which one. Most of my boating will be in the river right now but will be out on LI sound occasionally and do not want to be out there without GPS and VHF.

I think the 441 will be a nicer unit but with the 76 csx I will not have to dril any holes more of a plug and play unit.

any suggestions

Have you looked at the Garmin 620 or 640? Very nice units with large screen and portable. I'm looking at one of the two for myself. Just a thought even though more expensive.

I would go with the fixed mount... The bigger the screen the better. Drilling holes is fun... Don't let that stop you...

I had the 440 on my 250 dancer on long island sound it was great you dont have to drill holes my buddy fabricated a suction mount for his 4208 garmin out of a car gps mount works great. i have the 4208 and love garmin !!

Fixed mount. Top left side of dash. Run cables thru top behind gages. Like my Northstar with radio.

If you use the suction mount where do you run your power lines?

With the suction mount you have the option of running the wiring where it is convenient, I like to permanetly mount the wiring though, (more secure) but its nice to be able to remove the unit (for security) best of both worlds, I tucked my 440 on the starboard side deep in the windshield to protect from water spray worked nice.

I ordered the 441S, I got it for $468 w/transducer. I thought that was a deal! Comes in 8/24 I'll be drilling holes that night! Thanks for your replies

hds8 002.jpg1996 215 EC. Moved some things around and ditched the speedo. Lowrance HDS-8. The dach panel is made from 1/4 aluminum, in order to clear the round edge of the dash pannel

Wow, That looks awesome. I am not that talented! I wish I was. How far are you from CT? Do you want a side job?
