Going to Chicago this weekend for the day (maybe). Wife want to go to this 31 street Marina. Any Suggestions? She wants to stop and a dock to me some of her family there. How much would this cost me if it is even possible to do this on a holiday weekend? This is all going to depend on the weather, not going to cross the lake if the wave outlook is bad.

31st Street Marina is the newest Harbor in Chicago and they just opened a new in-ground pool in the last couple of weeks. The Harbor is only around 25-30% full, so you won't have a problem getting a slip, but expect to pay about $2.50 per foot per day, plus $10 per day for electrical. All the transient rates at Chicago Harbors are the same, I believe. 31st Street Harbor is beautiful and easy access to slips. I would call the harbor directly and ask for a discount or 2 for 1 deal.

If you want to be in the heart of the City, try to get a slip in DuSable Harbor or Burnham Harbor and you can walk or grab a cab very easily (you can get a cab, but you won't want to walk from 31st Street) to anywhere in the downtown.

Just keep in mind, there are concerts at Soldier Field (next to Burnham Harbor) on Friday, Saturday (One Direction) and Sunday (Luke Bryan) so traffic around Burnham will be quite congested this weekend each day after 3PM.

Watch the weather closely, pick a nice weather window and make the crossing. We are crossing from Holland to Burnham Harbor on Saturday but keeping a close watch on the weather to find the right time.

Have fun and be safe!

The harbor is only around 30% full — you should have no issues finding a dock. Unfortunately there is not much to do directly around the harbor (food etc.). Kind a dead zone from a city life perspective. I’m at Belmont. A very short walk to pretty much anything.

I will second a vote for DuSable! Only marina within walking distance of all of the downtown attractions - Navy Pier, Michigan Ave, etc. 31st, while nice, is WAY out by itself. You will need a taxi to go anywhere.

I made it there this weekend. Just stop at the 31 marina and got gas.
We did make it into the river. I'll post some pics once I get them on the computer.

Picture's are not that good this time.
