Getting the "ring" outta the head?

There's a ring of crusty crap (minerals) around the inside of the head at the waterline from the water evaporating out when I don't use it enough. Same thing- mineral/hard water deposits on the ball that seals the bowl.

Scrubbing doesn't get it. I was thinking about the usual household stuff, but was wondering if it might destroy the rubber seal around the bowl and the duckbills downstream.

I assume this happens to everyone, what do you guys use to get rid of this?

I don't get that crust - but my tank is filled with softened water.

However, I wouldn't hesitate to use CLR.

I dunno about removing it but to prevent it, keep a box of cheap denture tablets in the head compartment and put a tablet in there to soak once in a while. I get mine at the dollar store.

I also find that if I linger too long on the crapper, I get a pinkish ring around my butt but that's another story.

The denture tablets take the "stuff" (y'all define stuff) out of the porcelain? Interesting. I'll have to get some.

If you have a vacuflush with a porcelain bowl, you can use a pumice stone to get rid of the ring:

I just keep it scrubbed clean by using my wife’s toothbrush. Please don't tell her. (kidding)

I use a mild solution of home bowl cleaner followed by lots of water. So far 6 years with no issues related to bleach. Just don't let it sit for long.
