Weekend before last was out with the new to me boat and wanted to run the generator since I havent yet. I started it and ran it for a good hour before shutting it down with no problems. Had the A/C on and worked great. I did notice there was not much water coming out of the exhaust port.

Now this past weekend went our on the hook for the night and turned on the generator to warm up dinner in the microwave and the generator ran about 5 min or so and abruptly stoped. I did check the exhaust port and there was again very little watter coming out.

I started the generator in the am to heat water for coffee and then shut it down after about 8 min.

Question is how much water should there be coming out of the exhaust port from the cooling?

Should there be as much as the A/C discharg?

Is there a hight temp alarm that should have sounded if that was the problem with it shutting down?

I dont think there is enough water being pumped to cool the unit. If this sounds right please let me know.

Thanks

Barry

I had the same issue found my impeller was mssing a few vanes changed it and problem was fixed I had no alarm just my temp was high you should see a good amount of water coming out you should have error code On genni what type of genni do you have

Sounds like you are ready for an impeller. Not to bad of a job. Might I suggest to remove the stbd engine exhaust next to the genny. Makes it a little easier to work on. Also check the strainer and the pump to make sure they are clean. Try and find all the pieces of impeller you can so you don't end up with more problems. That particiular model pumps a good bit of water out so more than likely that is the problem. You prolly don't have an alarm for the genny for high temp. There is a sensor that when it gets to high it will shut the unit down. Best of luck to you. That is a great boat you have. Mine is a little older version of that same boat. There is a 98 beside me a friend owns and we have been all through that boat. Pretty easy to work on if you know your way around.

I have the westbroke 7.0 geni. I had a good idea that it was the impeller but not sure so thanks for conferming my thoughts.

I have not been down in the engine compartment but twice, even as large as it it I am still a little large to fit between the engines. I am going to have and pull up all the access panels to try and get down there.

Thanks all for the responces. Now all I have to do is confirm the model and order the parts.

You only need to pull up the rear starboard floor panel after removing the rear bench seat. You can then stand behind the starboard motor and change the impeller on the gennie. Make sure you shut off the seacock first. Inspect the cover of the water pump housing after removing it, if it shows signs of wear, replace that also. Pull the strainer out while you are at it and clean it.............pretty staright forward. You didn't mention if you were getting an alarm or not.

Last season mine would shut off with out any alarms after about a half hour of running, turned out to be a simple carb adjustment.

If you still have problems after changing the impellar you may have to blow out the heat exchanger. All those vanes from the impellar will clog it up. Good Luck!

No I didnt have and alarm, Should there have been an alarm for high Temp? Also how much water / flow should I see coming out of the exhaust port?

Thanks
Barry
