This is a 5 year old thread someone reopened.
But you talked about Honda's on the swim platform! Like a red cape in front of a bull!

Now somebody has to add the popcorn emoji!

I don’t get it is there something I should know? Please explain.

First.....welcome to CSR!

When you wake up a 5 year old thread and the Original Poster has been gone for 5 years from CSR.....it is amusing in a silly way.

As to "incoming" ....we have had an inside joke running for almost 20 years about using portable generators on boats. I can't tell you how many people have thought this was a great idea and forget about how dangerous it can be. It seemed like every summer somebody or a family died from Carbon Monoxide poisoning by using a Honda generator.

In your regards to your generator query...... Quicksilver's are 30+ year old tech and certainly weren't very efficient back in the day. Any generator you would find today would be because they were pulled from a boat for parts.

In short, portable generators on swim platforms are not safe from an electrical and fumes (Carbon Monoxide) standpoint. They are not bonded/grounded to the electrical system and the fuel systems are different from marine generators allowing fumes to gather in the unit where marine generators have sealed fuel systems.

It is a topic that gets "flamed" whenever anyone asks about using a portable generator on their boat.

Thank you all for your responses just to clear the record. I have absolutely no intention of running a genset on my swim platform. This will be installed to replace an a in existing genset of the same make model and year I’ve been voting for well over 45 years and I’m not a newbie thanks for your concern, & appreciate your help greatly. Thank you for bringing me into the group. !!

Hi all, I have been communicating with this poster. He did respond has anyone had any real world contact or know him??
in this day and age here sadly, it’s hard to trust anyone I’m feeling like this could possibly be a scam he’s asking for half upfront before he ships, any help or insight would be greatly appreciated!
This would be replacing an existing genny of same make & model that needs a new backend (stator & regulator rewind).
Or I came across this, and I will seem too good to be true and I’m pretty worried it actually is. thanks again. All!

Thank you

I was quoted verbally 8,000 for a new 9 KW gas generator installed at the Seattle Boat show.
Perhaps parting it out might get you some customers. I will give you 200 for the exhaust manifold if it is in good condition. Payment after you ship and I inspect.
Anyone else need parts for there old generator?
I’m not sure if you’re still looking for the exhaust manifold for that generator but there’s a guy in New York that makes them out of Monel which is in the stainless steel family. Here’s his contact info.

OK I haven’t heard any negative comments about him from anyone on here. I’m going to go ahead and pull the pin on this one. I’m going to pay him through PayPal. I’ll let you know how it turns out. Thank you all.!

So I didn’t end up pulling the trigger. He refuses to make a video of the generator running, and or a picture of him with the generator to prove it’s not a scam. All of my senses are telling me is not legitimate unfortunate as I could really put the generator to good use as a spare/replacement, but will keep searching. Thanks for all of your input and help. Much appreciated.!!

Dale did you communicate with the seller at all by chance curious as to what his responses were to you?

I communicated with him years ago in this thread. John, you dodged a bullet. I don't waste time with people like him. That generator ....if it exists...... hasn't run in 7-8 years. It came out of a boat and may have run but somebody pulled it from a boat for a reason.....and I will bet $100 that it had problems when it came out. You could have easily ended up with a Quicksilver with more problems than you have now.

As to why you want a really old generator "because it matches your boat"......you may want to consider that is not a good strategy. Newer generator tech is far more efficient, quieter, produces more electricity and is lighter than a Quicksilver.

If you want to rebuild the backend ...send it to Broward and they will get it working.

Thank you for your response Dale my reasoning is number one the generator is very quiet. It only spins at 1800 RPMs and that’s what has been in the boat maybe not the best idea but the best I can afford and I believe purchasing a new genset would be in the neighborhood of 10 K that would meet our needs. I could be wrong. I haven’t done much shopping. I’m also from the school if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it but if you know something that would be as quiet or quieter, I may consider doing that, eventually when I have the funds available thanks again have a great day and yes, I do believe I dodged a bullet!
