Gatlinburg, TN Vacation

So what's the weather going to be like in this area end of October, early November? Cold, snow, ice?

He just wants to ride the boats:

Greg didn't ride the boats because he couldn't make up his mind on which one to get on.

Nor was I able to negotiate a good price for the ride tickets...oh well.

We have a reservation for a cabin over the Thanksgiving holiday this year. We are really looking forward to it. The prices seem a little high, but the cabins are really nice (ours even has a theater room), and the views from the decks are unbelievable.

"the views from the decks are unbelievable."

Care to share where?

It never ceases to amaze me that I live in the mountains and spend most of my time trying to figure out how to spend time on the coast and people who live on the coast spend their time coming to the mountains. Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge are filled with congested masses of rednecks seeking funnel cakes and cotton candy. Yee haw.

That is kind of what I am hearing here. Might be good for a day or two is what I am thinking at this point. See where Gary got gas, play a little, sight see, move on.

If you want to stay somewhere real nice, with a great restaurant, then I'd recommend the Buckberry Lodge. Top notch hotel, great service, and good location. Bit pricey, but worth it. This is a favorite for me and my wife.

Lol....I think the locals here have a different view of the Gatlinburg area than those who actually vacation there. I've done quite a bit of business in that area over the years & honestly I'd rather be beat with a stick than go up there. Most times I feel like I could drive to Atlanta & back quicker than I can get in & out of Gatlinburg.
But then again I'm on a mission when I'm in that area & not really looking for any deals on taffy or tshirts.

It's a beautiful area if you aren't in a hurry & like to go now where fast. I here Ripleys Aquarium is worth the trip and Dollywood has to be one of the cleanest parks in the country.

We have always done the beach thing too, This summer we went to Gatlinburg and the whole family loved it.
We stayed at Gatlinburg Falls and have no complaints our cabin was called Smoky Pleasure and the views from the decks were great. Ckeck them out http://www.gatlinburgfalls.com/

I obviously have a different view than most since I am close to being local but I agree with Matt about funnel cakes and T-shirts. I would steer clear of Gatlinburg and stay on the other side either Townsend or even Maggie Valley or Cherokee NC.

If I had a trailerable boat you might consider going to Chattanooga. There are docks right next to the downtown. The aquarium there is every bit as equal to the Ripley's and no where near as crowded.
