Stopped for fuel at Wrightsville Beach Marina yesterday. We took the boat out for only the second time since we got it two weeks ago. Took a cruise around Wrightsville, through Masonboro Inlet, and back up the ICW to the marina 6 miles away.

The channel was white capping and the boat took it like a champ at cruise speed. One thing I notice about myself with this boat is that I get very cautious around other boaters. I almost had one cut me off yesterday, but I saw it coming. Was a good day overall, though.

nice looking 290

looking forward to the day of having a cold beer on my boat.

deploy the fenders!

Nice looking boat. Sounds like you had a good day on the water, and that's what boating is all about.

I always assume the other 'captain' is going to do something dumb so I watch other boats that are close to me. If I don't take anything for granted it could save me a lot of grief.

Seeing yours just makes me drool about putting mine in.

Next time, check Bridgetender across the waterway, I believe they are less for gas

Wait until the summer boating traffic. Wrightsville gets crazy. Bahamabreisus and I are just North of you. We will have to meet up this summer.

Yeah I've been boating in these waters for years and I know all about it. People get CRAZY on the water. We stopped using our 23 foot Sea Fox because every time we tried to launch the boat it was pure chaos. There is no courtesy at the boat ramp, nowhere to park, and a lot of people were just flat out rude and mean. We sold it and got this new to us Sea Ray that we keep at Scotts Hill. We will definitely have to meet this summer and raft up.

I will have a look at Bridgetender. I checked Dockside last night and they had signs up on the pumps that said no fuel. However, the price was $4.24 on the pump, about 50 cents less than WB Marina. I'm going to sit down this week and compare prices of all the fuel docks in the area. Is there an app for that?

don't know about the app, but I just call them all enroute. They are usually fairly close in price. But it can not hurt to try and find the best price. I can sometimes run North and get fuel there as well. Either direction is about 17miles from my location.

I tried using marinefuel.com but for some reason I never get a registration email with a verification code that I need to fully register. Then I found http://www.waterwayguide.com/fuel-pricing/nc which seems very up to date. Doesn't list WB Marina yet, but I can attest that it was $4.79/gal for unleaded gas.

Best place for fuel is Sneads Ferry. Usually, a little above street prices. Takes about an hour to get there from Scotts Hill, but great ride, very little traffic above Surf City bridge. We feel we get a free boat ride for what we save.

Thanks for the advice. That would be a great area to visit, especially to watch the bi-yearly airshow at MCAS New River by water.

We stopped using our 23 foot Sea Fox because every time we tried to launch the boat it was pure chaos. There is no courtesy at the boat ramp, nowhere to park, and a lot of people were just flat out rude and mean." Speaking of Airshows... In October we have "Fleet Week" in San Francisco Bay. Blue Angels, Snow Birds, Patriots, Red Bull air races, stunt planes, and Navy ships. It is one of my favorite times on the Bay, and my wife and I usually burn a couple of vacation days to fully appreciate the spectacle. Here comes the conundrum. Most boaters I know, or have met in person, are very reasonable, fun people. I have trouble reconciling this experience with all the drunk idiots looking at the sky, and hundreds of 'captains' with seemingly ZERO appreciation for the rules of the road, that come out of the woodwork for 'Opening Day' and 'Fleet Week'. I have my own rule, which lives somewhere between Rule 16 and Rule 17. My rule is, "do not let the other guy put you in a corner" with a subsection "the other boat will try its level best to share the same piece of water". On the water, if I assume the absolute worst of my fellow boaters, I am seldom disappointed. Sometimes the actions of the boats (or their radio conversations) are pretty hilarious. As long as you are ready and paying attention. I am Staff Commodore of the EYC, and have shared sea stories with numerous local boaters. Almost down to the person, high regard for safety and boater competence seems universal. However, we just had the Coast Guard Axillary free boat inspections at our Marina. We have 400 plus boats, and about 100 Yacht Club members. The sign up sheet was about 15 boats. The upside is that whether we are at a launching ramp, watching an air show, or out on Opening Day, I can recognize the other captains who take the game seriously. There is no reason to be rude or mean, and I can never figure out where those people come from. I usually just figure they are incompetent, and unsure of them selves, and I am good enough to deal with their stupidity and still have a great day :0) My grandmother used to say "Don't wrestle with pigs". "You BOTH get dirty, and the pig likes it".

Yep always expect the worst and expect others to not know what they're doing. The next New River airshow should be sometime next year. It got cancelled last year due to heavy flight line construction. Cherry Point is having theirs on May 17 and 18, but that will be a car trip.
