We are looking at maybe getting a 370DA

We have looked at 2 so far

1 is a 99 and has 7.4 MPI's and the second is a 97 and has 8.1 Horizons

Can you guys give me some rough estimates as to the fuel burn your getting or would expect to get
I know there are a number of determining factors but just some idea would be helpful

Thanks

My 7.4 MPI engines on my 97 370 burn about 30 gals per hr. When I cruise at 3400 RPM.
right around 26 MPH. Which equates to .8 miles per gallon at cruising speed.

Did the '97 with the 8.1s recently get repowered, someone correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think they ever offered the 8.1s for the 370DA.

I repowered my '95 370DA with 8.1s and I'm seeing 24-25 MPH, 30 GPH @ 3550 RPM. I'm getting .8 MPG.

Hi John,

I think you are correct on that. 8.1 was offered on the 380Da in 2000.

I believe the 8.1 was first offered very late in the 2001 model year, and then was a fully available in 2002. The were many factory warranty claims on originally installed 7.4L engines, for water ingestion, and those were replaced with 8.1s.

To answer your question, the burn rates are about the same... What year are the 8.1s? They had problems with Aluminum exhaust risers failing. The 7.4s had water ingestion issues on the 340s, but not so much on the 370s...
