Frozen in on Lake Minnetonka - Day 3 Trying to pull big Chris Craft

Yep, no big deal. It was always overblown by the clowns in that county. I loved the part where the county couldn’t move the light, so the driver just backed up the load and went around. Like towing a bow rider. I’m from the government and here to help you.

It’s not a problem when located in an area that has the proper facilities. Current place is Mayberry.
Ahh. Right. Always the county at fault.
Can you you point on a doll where big bad govt touched you???

I don’t think Golfman is talking about the govt as much as marina facilities properly equipped to service and handle that boat…

I’d like to believe that, but that fails his “Mayberry” quote. The problem was the idiocy of the owners and their lack of prep based on their inability or refusal to pay the $ to have true pros do the move in the first place. It then became the problem for the county. But. Sure. “Mayberry” Hennepin County is the issue.

Plenty of facilities within walking distance. My understanding is the owners of those facilities were done with the owner of Sea Note.

Correct. A big travel lift would be a plus. :)
The problem seems to be that the owner doesn’t want to spend the real $ to do this properly.

happy it’s moved. Apparently they only moved it to some property near the launch. So still not truly gone. But better.

Don't think any of that is true. There was one facility who had a trailer big enough for the boat where it spent the past several winters on. When the boat was originally sold and planned to move to the Miss/Tx, that facility made plans to use the trailer for another boat. So when the, as you say, "true pros" backed out from moving the boat, it was stuck and they guy who wanted to move it to TX sold it to the current owner. But the boat was literally stuck -- no trailers, travel lifts, etc. to handle it. Thus the current plan.

And yes, the county is run by clowns missing a car. The move took less than an hour, with zero issues. They had pros come in from Wisconsin to tow it. When the county couldn't get the stop light moved, the driver backed the load up, and took it around the lights from the other lane, which is how the pros move big boats. The county on the other hand, wanted to hire the same "pros" who bailed on the prior owner to move to the Miss, and move the boat at a cost of $70,000. They took a situation that should have lasted a few hours and drug it out a few months.

I am not here to sing the praises of local government, I am just not sure where they are the problem in the original scenario. Paul decided he didn't want to pay the $60-70K to have a proper trailer brought in and get the boat moved before there was ice buildup. So he decided to hillbilly up his own trailer that obviously wasn't up to snuff and then basically abandons the whole thing on county property because he can't complete the work due to the shittiness of said trailer. If he wasn't fiscally capable of moving the boat he was surely in over his head, no?

Just not true. The people who where originally hired to move the boat backed out -- probably couldn't do it. That started the dominos. When Paul pulled the boat, the county wouldn't issue the permits to move the load. That's why it stayed there for months while the courts took over. It took less than an hour to move the boat, with no issues (except the county that couldn't get the stop light moved). The trailer was obviously fit for its purpose. The county, and only the county, made this into an issue. The judge saw thru their BS.

And if the place wasn't Mayberry, there would be a travel lift big enough to lift the boat out and put it on blocks and stands like they do every day at my place on Lake Michigan. Boat is too big for that lake.

Capitalists ….. they are everywhere

I think the judge saw through the defendant's BS as well...
"The bottom line is that the defendants left a large, potentially unstable object on public property without claim of right to do so," Moore wrote.

They only "left" it there because the COUNTY dragged their feet on issuing the permits, and the Sheriff did everything he could to complicate the issue. They probably could have moved it the next day from when they pulled it out of the lake, and the COUNTY could have expedited the permit to make that so. Especially given the weather limitations at the time.

But no, they had to drag their feet on the issue. It's not like the guy was trying to drive this down the expressway in rush-hour traffic!!!

Disgusting what the county did last night too. The Sheriff blocked the move from happening by parking a couple patrol cars in a strategic spot so the boat couldn't have been moved. How much time and resources did that waste?? Then, the guys sent to move the ONLY traffic light that needed to be moved waited until AFTER the truck, trailer and boat were already on the road headed towards the light, when they then found out that the bolts were unable to come loose!!! They could have started that work at MIDNIGHT when the road was supposed to be closed off. They ended up having to BACK UP the trailer and boat and go around the median to the other side of the road. More wasted resource!!!

I hope he sues the county and recovers some of the costs... both in the ~108 day delay and also all the time last night!!!
