My buddy's Norcold fridge is crapping out. We seem to think that the problem is actually with the seperate capacitor that is installed on the back of the unit.

He has a 2000 380DA.

Anyone have experience with this problem:smt100

Hey guys - I hope this might help a few people. I bought a 1995 400 EC last year at this time. The fridge is only a couple of years old. We used it while it was up on the hard and it cooled really well. It ran well on our trip home (300+ miles) but shortly after that it stopped cooling. It cooled a small amount, but nothing like before.

Because the weather was warmer as the season went on, I chalked it up to a poor performing unit. I thought maybe more ventilation was in order, but when I finally pulled it out I found that the cooling fan running air across the heat sink in the back was dead. They use a standard "muffin fan" that runs on 12 Vdc - a unit you can buy at any computer store. I replaced that unit, and then i poked a 1/2" hole in the air conditioning duct which runs behind the fridge to supply more air flow. The result is icy cold beer and a fridge that barely has to work at all. The amazing thing was that prior to my repair, the fridge cooled a little bit! I can't imagine how hard it was working, but when I first pulled it out from the enclosure you could cook an egg on the compressor!
