Hi all,
I've searched for this answer with no luck. I am trying to add new circuits to my boat, one is a heading sensor. And I'm trying to use one of the accessory circuits that are activated by the soft keypad that works in concert with the EIM under the helm.

My question is, where do I find the connection point to tap into those circuits??? When I take the cover off the EIM, I see a circuit board with two rows of circuit breakers with button resets. Are those circuit breakers both relay and breaker?
I have not pulled off the EIM because the screws are under the major power lines and I didn't want to take the major power connections off while in the water but since we're out now I may tackle it if there's something on the bottom to see. The major pigtail connection comes out the side and disappears. I see no place to connect into those circuits and the schematics in the owners manual isn't a lot of help. For one accessory connection it shows a hanging coiled wire (where it is located it doesn't say) and for the other accessory line, it shows it going to the connector and no farther.

Any help in understanding what I'm dealing with here is much appreciated.

The easiest way to do this is to look at the wiring diagram for the EIM. It actually is just a 'black box' diagram showing the external connections and switch functions. The accessory circuit will show with a pin number for the position on the exit plug. A wire color code can be found by looking at the plug wiring on the next sheet which is the main dc wiring diagram

On the 280 EIM (and I think it is the same for the 300) there is an unused ACC at pin 20 with a terminated red with violet stripe wire. On the 280 pin 1 is ACCY 1 and is connected to the fresh water pump. This may also be usable if your boat has the water pump on/off on the main DC panel in the cabin. Pin 7 is an unswitched ACCY circuit meaning that as long as the battery switches are on there is juice. My 280 master wiring diagram shows this as being meant for the VHF, but the VHF is actually connected directly to the main EIM power and ground terminals. For something like a heading sensor {in 7 might be a better choice, then there will be no forgetting to turn it on.

Thanks for your help Henry. I was hoping there is some other way to find a block of connectors but I guess I'll be taping into those lines (cut, add tap, solder and shrinkwrap). It's very tight in space around my front EIM.
On the water pump, I have noticed that when I switch the water pump on in the cabin on the main board, it doesn't require the pump to be on, at the helm.

I am surprised it shows up as a button the way it does, at the helm, when it's really switched down below.

I have the same problem in adding new accessories on a 340. The manual schematics show the FWD ACC to be a RED/VIO wire labeled 535 and states "FWD ACCY terminate and coil". That is good, but no where in the manual nor any online searches nor any searches in the forum say anything about the location of this "coil". I could not find it anywhere near the EIM.

Its in there. Usually there is 18" to 36" tucked in with the other wires coming out of the EIM. Start at the plug, find the correct pin-out and follow the wire back. The tied off end my be tucked inside of the protective casing for the harness.
