For those that haven't seen POD drives

Here's two that were fished out of the bottom of the river today. 450DB on its way from Boston to FL ran aground. Mechanic working on them said they are design to shear off and you just bolt them back on. Got some prop damage to deal with, though.

Those are some serious props. Do the shafts break right off? It looks like it sheared cleanly
 
Wonder if they are designed kind of like a commercial turbofan engine mount so that if they shear off they are meant to not cause further damage IE hitting the wing leading edges, or in this case, not thwacking into the bottom of the hull with enough force to hole it?
 
Wow, bet that was exciting stuff at the time! What a shame. That's what always bothers us about POD's where we are as water here is so skinny. Does look as if they sheared off as supposed to though:)
